On the Shoulders of Giants: A Zulu Creative
This four-part documentary series celebrates the lives of four writers from our past - men who influenced the course of history and who contributed to the building blocks of this generation.
In this series we go back and learn from a generation that espoused black excellence in a time of hardship, of colonial and apartheid rule in South Africa.
Through the lives of John Langalibalele Dube, Anton Muziwakhe Lembede, Jordan Kush Ngubane and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, we position art and leadership in its varied forms, as a useful tool of genius in the struggle to transform society.
This project is about drawing from the strength of those giants who struggled against social injustice to inspire the present day generation to care deeply about society and continue the fight against injustice.
It is also about giving symbols of black excellence to today's generation in their "popular living memory".
The series explores strong themes such as the philosophy and importance of education, the might of the pen and the power of journalism, custodianship and what it means to be African.
