ABOUT

Launched in South Africa on DStv Channel 66 at 18h00 on 28 February 2007, C+I carried programming about real crime and real people. The History Channel UK - a joint venture of A&E Television Networks and BSkyB (British Sky Broadcasting) - launched the channel in Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, with MultiChoice Africa.

The channel was transmitted in English and programming, marketing and operations was managed by The History Channel UK.

Positioning itself as "the ultimate destination for viewers looking to unearth the real story behind the headlines", C+I opened the door to crime labs, police archives and courtrooms, providing a behind-the-scenes look at criminal investigations, probing unexplained mysteries and examining the lives of infamous murderers and villains.

While police work to crack some of the world's most fascinating crimes, viewers could witness first-hand as police utilised old-fashioned detective work and the latest forensic investigation tools to solve cases – both new and cold.

Series to air on the channel included Cops, Crime & Punishment, Future Cops, Rescue 911, The FBI Files, Medical Detectives, The Criminal Mind, Crime Central, Cold Case Files, Diagnosis Unknown and Unsolved Mysteries.

Originally broadcasting on Channel 66. C+I moved to Channel 255 on Monday 1 October, 2007. It moved again, to Channel 170, on 1 October, 2012.

C+I was upgraded from standard definition (SD) to high definition (HD) in October 2016. Originally a premium bouquet channel only, it was added to the Compact Plus bouquet on 22 August, 2017.

Originally called "Crime & Investigation Network", the channel was rebranded in March 2018 to "Crime + Investigation".

The channel was terminated on Friday 1 November, 2019, at 12h25. Some of the programming was moved to the Lifetime channel.
