FOX Life is tailored for African audiences and debuted in South Africa on Monday 3 October 2016, at 18h10. The first show to air on the channel was the dubbed Portuguese telenovela Blood Ties.
As part of the new channel, an additional 500 hours of fresh new programming were planned for the schedule over the months after the channel launch, focused on localised storytelling, created specifically for African viewers.
New American shows to debut on FOX Life at launch included Pitch and Atlanta.
The channel was placed alongside FOX Africa on DStv, on channel 126, replacing FOX Crime, which was discontinued on Wednesday 28 September, 2016. Select programming from this channel was folded into the FOX daytime schedules.
FOX Life joined the extensive FNG portfolio in Africa, which includes FOX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, National Geographic Gold, FOX Sports, FOX Sports 2 and Baby TV.
In October 2017, one year after launching, FOX Life was given a channel refresh - both in look and feel, as well as content. More local programming was introduced, as well as an increased focus on Turkish telenovelas, along with streamlining of genre, predictable repeat patterns and weekend catch ups. First-run international series like Lee Daniels' Star and Atlanta were moved to the premium bouquet channel, FOX Africa.
The channel was discontinued on StarSat on 30 September, 2019.
