ABOUT

Investigation Discovery, which is owned by Discovery, Inc., debuted in South Africa on TopTV when the satellite platform launched on 1 May, 2010.

Investigation Discovery and TLC were launched on DStv at the same time on 14 October, 2011, to complement Discovery's existing portfolio of male-skewed channels which at the time consisted of Discovery Channel, Discovery World, Animal Planet and Discovery HD Showcase.

From harrowing crimes to in-depth investigations and heart-breaking mysteries behind "real people, real stories", the channel attempts to challenge our understanding of culture, society and the human condition.

ID features scripted, female-targeted programmes telling the stories behind crime forensics and criminal investigations, primarily through documentary series, docu-dramas and docu-reality series.

Investigation Discovery was temporarily replaced by the "glossier" ID Extra (styled as IDx) on StarSat (15 July, 2015) and DStv (5 January, 2016) to produce predominantly tabloid-focused crime stories.

It reverted to Investigation Discovery in 2017 and moved from Standard Definition (SD) to High Definition (HD) from 21 May, 2018.
