Recipes for Love and Murder
Me (DStv 115)
A South African / Scottish co-production murder mystery television series based on Sally Andrew's novel Recipes for Love and Murder: A Tannie Maria Mystery, about a small-town recipe advice columnist who turns detective to solve a horrific crime.
When a woman seeking advice about an abusive husband is found dead, recipe advice columnist Tannie Maria and her colleague, rookie journalist Jessie, spring into action, determined to solve this small town Karoo murder and catch the killer.
Big city cop Khaya and his team of local police officers always find themselves just slightly behind the detecting duo, as the investigation takes us through an array of unlikely suspects.
Maria Purvis (nicknamed Tannie Maria, meaning Auntie Maria in Afrikaans), is a middle-aged advice columnist who moved to Scotland as a child along with her parents and returned 10 years ago to South Africa after her husband died.
She now dishes out help and recipes via the local gazette in the imaginary South African town of Eden, in the beautiful region of the Karoo.
Mostly keeping to herself, focusing on food, gardening and showing kindness to others, she is often thought of as an old lady before her time.
But when Martine, a woman who writes to Maria about her abusive husband, is found dead, Maria joins forces with a local, risk-taking, rookie journalist, Jessie September (played by newcomer Kylie Fisher), to solve the small-town murder and catch the killer - before the local police finds more victims.
The series stars Maria Doyle Kennedy as the empathetic, accomplished and complicated Maria; as well as Tony Kgoroge who plays Khaya Meyer, the local Chief Detective.
The series also star Elton Landrew as Constable Piet and Arno Greeff as Warrant Officer Regardt Snyman, Jennifer Steyn as the editor of the local paper and Lee Duru as Grace, a domestic worker whose story shakes up the town.
The series was filmed in Cape Town, in the semi-arid region of the Karoo and in Scotland.

The series showcases relatable builds that focus on parts and power as the brothers swap engines, upgrade the performance and revitalise every vehicle that comes through their shop.
The Holden brothers are mechanics by trade and true to their Texan roots: down-to-earth, patriotic, community-oriented, and dedicated to family.

The builds are accessible vehicles chosen by what the brothers think they can quickly turn around within budget while having the most fun.
In each episode, the Holden brothers find a car or truck for around $5,000 and use the rest of their $25,000 budget to transform it into a ride any gearhead would enjoy.
From a 1966 Ford F-350 to a 1988 Chevy K5 Blazer, the season features a variety of stand-out builds, including:
Transforming a 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon from a "grocery getter" to a power wagon.
Modifying a 1976 Jeep DJ-5 Postal Truck to be a beach-friendly weekend cruiser.
Converting a 1985 Mercedes Benz 300d Turbo Diesel into an offroad safari package.
Turning a 1985 Dodge D-100 into a Sunday Shredder in a classic Pro Street style.
Making a 1971 Chevy Chevelle Wagon the baddest hot rod in the neighbourhood.
In the series premiere, "VW Bust to Killer Bus": Willie and Stephen purchase a 1969 Volkswagen van that they want to bring back to life.
After installing a new battery, fuel pump, fuel line and upgrading the interior, paint and tyres, this will be the getaway van everyone wants to drive.

Grand Designs 21
BBC Lifestyle (DStv 174)

In the Season 21 premiere, "Wye Valley": Ever since Rosa was a child in the Wye Valley, inspired by Grandad Leo, she dreamt of turning a family owned, century old, decommissioned steam railway reservoir into a home.
Over two decades later Rosa and her partner Craig finally set out to turn this dream into reality.
Their radical plan is to reinvent the reservoir as an utterly unique living space.
Huge holes are to be punched through the reservoir's flank wall to allow light to flood in.
Above the kitchen in this cavernous space will be a dramatic mezzanine giving glorious views across the valley.
A new subterranean concrete extension will contain four bedrooms and help enclose a hidden courtyard garden sitting at the heart of the house.
It's wildly ambitious but Rosa and Craig hope enthusiasm and emotional attachment to this special place will compensate for their inexperience and optimistic budget.
But builders' quotes come in way above the £700,000 that Rosa and Craig can just about afford, mainly through borrowing, jeopardising the entire project from the get-go.
After months of agonising however, some heartbreaking news compels them to persevere with the project no matter what.
That turns out to be a pandemic, numerous money crises, pregnancy and a schedule that balloons from 12 months to over three years.
Will it all be worth it for Rosa to live in her beloved reservoir?
