Kontreikos Kokke

Kontreikos Kokke (Country Food Chefs) is a cooking competition series with a difference.

In this celebration of small town South Africa, hosted by Fokus presenter Lynette Francis-Puren, communities of 'dorpies' nominate their favourite cooks to take part in the competition.

All of the nominees are tasked with making the same dish, using their own recipes and in their own homes. The locals taste all of the dishes and the community decides which chef did it best.

At the end of the episode the winner earns a cash prize of R5,000, bragging rights and the dorpie's title of Country Cook.

The 13-part series showcases home cooks in the following provinces:

Northern Cape

Victoria West, Loxton, Kenhardt, Keimoes and Danielskuil

Free State

Philippolis, Trompsburg, Ficksburg, Fouriesburg and Rosendal

Eastern Cape

Willowmore and Joubertina

In the series premiere: the feature dorpie is Trompsburg in the Free State, where the three contestants are challenged to make the best beef cottage pie.

Massive Engineering Mistakes

Channel: HISTORY (DStv 186)
TX Time: 19h25
Genre: Science, Technology, Documentary Series

Massive Engineering Mistakes

Humans have been building for more than 10,000 years.

We're engineering experts, yet every year tales emerge of construction calamities from all over the world.

From the extraordinary to the ridiculous, this series uncovers the epic fails and near misses engineers would rather not talk about.

A skyscraper with a killer secret, a crumbling cathedral and a bridge with a balance problem all make the hitlist of barely believable building blunders.

And let's not forget the original engineering fail, the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Who knew over-enthusiastic engineers trying to right the tower nearly destroyed it just 30 years ago?

With access to design teams, eye witnesses and a panel of experts, we analyse what went wrong with each building blunder, investigate why they went undiscovered and reveal how on Earth engineers are trying to fix them.

In the series premiere: What caused a Baltimore street to collapse onto a railroad? How did engineers fix London's wobbly Millennium Footbridge?

Experts and witnesses analyse what happened.

Spoorloos 3: Steynhof

A baby disappears from a farm in the Northern Cape. Two people are found dead. There is no trace of the baby or her carer.

What happened that fateful night? Who was murdered and by whom? And why was the baby abducted?

Fifteen years later her family gets the news: she's been found...

Fifteen-year old Adri Erasmus realises that there is no record of her birth.

With the help of Xander, a highly intelligent school friend, she finds out that a baby disappeared 15 years earlier.

The main suspect in the abduction is the child carer Liena April, as she also disappeared that same night.

Looking for answers, Adri finds herself on a farm deep in the Northern Cape where she is welcomed with open arms, but it soon becomes apparent that not everybody wants her to find out the truth.

This is the background of the third season of Spoorloos, entitled Spoorloos: Steynhof, and follows the same thread as the previous seasons.

All of the Spoorloos seasons have the same structure - they take place on the platteland and a secret of the past is the reason for the drama happening now.

This season there is one small change in that it is not a town where the drama takes place, but a farm, Steynhof.

Season 3 stars Stiaan Smith (Hotel), Jane de Wet (The Girl from St. Agnes), Brent Vermeulen (Afgrond), Diaan Lawrenson (7de Laan), Arno Marais (Die Boekklub), Eloise Clasen (Binnelanders), Vinette Ebrahim (7de Laan), Ivan D. Lucas (Dryfsand), Wayne van Rooyen (Inconceivable), Franci Swanepoel (Sterlopers) and Kim Cloete (Fynskrif).

Ralph Ineson (Chernobyl) voices Sergeant Detritus, a huge a troll made of stone and a member of The City Watch.

In the series premiere, "A Near Vimes Experience": Captain Sam Vimes' life in the City Watch is changed forever when an impossible figure from his past returns to Ankh-Morpork.

Twenty years ago, Vimes watched his street brother and gang-leader Carcer Dun fall from a fatal height. Somehow, Carcer is back.

Disasters Engineered

Channel: HISTORY (DStv 186)
TX Time: 20h15
Genre: Documentary Series, Science, Technology

Disasters Engineered

Progress sometimes comes at a price, and this series looks at what we can learn from manmade disasters to counteract the underlying issues behind why our machines and structures fail.

Using real-life footage, computer models and expert interviews, Disaster Engineered will take us through events like the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the Challenger space shuttle disaster to reveal how catastrophic structural failures happened.

Not to mention the bureaucratic tangles, mismanagement and financial decision-making that led to expert engineers' warnings being ignored.

It'll also examine the consequences and human and financial costs of disasters like the Bhopal gas tragedy, the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown and the Aberfan mine disaster in Wales.

Historical cases from the sinking of Titanic and the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows bridge, all the way to more modern disasters like the high-speed train crash in Ankara, Turkey in 2018 will come under the spotlight.

Mnakwethu 2

Channel: Mzansi Magic (DStv 161)
TX Time: 20h00
Genre: Reality

Mnakwethu 2

Hosted by Musa Mseleku, Mnakwethu is a reality show that gives married men a chance to overcome the fear of introducing polygamy to their current wives.

Season 2 continues to explore the concept of polygamy, as already married men introduce their desire to take on a second wife.

What will their reactions be as the current wife is introduced to the new woman who has been identified as a future wife?

Although polygamy still raises eyebrows and is often viewed as primitive and sexist, it is an age-old practice that continues to thrive on the African continent and across the globe.

Season 2 will offer key insights of what it actually takes to be a man married to multiple women.

As a man in a polygamous marriage himself, Mseleku shares first-hand experiences of the ups and downs of a polygamous marriage.

Mseleku will interrogate and engage with the man as to why he would like another wife and whether he is indeed capable of taking care of multiple families financially.

Further, his emotional and sexual capacity to lead another household will be unpacked, as well as the level of stability between him and his current wife before someone new is introduced into the family dynamic.
