McDonald & Dodds
BBC Brit (DStv 120)
Detective drama McDonald & Dodds is a series of feature length crime mysteries comprising two intriguing stories.
Set in Bath, the drama pairs the wildly ambitious DCI McDonald with the shy, modest DS Dodds.
While McDonald has transferred from the mean streets of South London to leap up the career ladder, Dodds has happily languished on the shelf for most of his working life.
McDonald is a tough, driven, battering ram of a cop who cracks cases through sheer force of will; Dodds – the tortoise to her hare – is quiet, unassuming and enigmatic.
But thrust back into frontline action for the first time in a decade, he discovers a hidden talent for deciphering puzzles.
Two contemporary Britons, thrown together with seemingly with nothing in common, boss McDonald and loyal sidekick Dodds forge a rumbustious, entertaining and ultimately – give or take a few setbacks – effective partnership.
Each film takes us into a new story world - from a greed-fueled murder in the upper echelons of Bath society, to an unexplained death in a private hospital for recovering addicts.
With a classic crime story at its heart, McDonald & Dodds combines intriguing plots and the journey of two mismatched detectives with warmth and humour.
Murder Comes Home
IDx (DStv 171 / StarSat 223)
True Crime, Docu-Drama, Documentary Series
When sentimental memories collide with horrific imagery, murder comes closer to home than anyone could ever have imagined.
This series pairs actual crime scene video with real home video to create an intimate and emotionally powerful mystery.
Each episode chronicles a life inside a home told through home videos: birthdays, holidays, first bike rides, first dates; all these images tell the story of a happy home.
That is, until it's struck by a devastating crime. Then the same home is documented by investigative crime scene video, depicting an intimate portrait of a life invaded by violence.
Sometimes actual clues that help solve the mystery appear in the family's home video, sometimes in the crime scene video.
Either way, a home and family are forever changed, and until the killer is brought to justice, those memories are shattered forever.

Touched by an Angel
Tess and Monica are angels sent down to Earth to help those with problems. Each week sees them deal with widely different people with widely different problems.
While dealing with the situation, the angels also try to re-establish faith and belief and Christian principles.
They are ably assisted by Andrew, the Angel of Death, Gloria and other angel-friends.
The series enjoyed continuous high ratings since it first aired and much of its wide appeal has been attributed to its non-judgemental and peaceful message.
In the series premiere, "The Southbound Bus": The angel Monica (Roma Downey) is excited at being promoted to the job of caseworker, a notch up from search and rescue missions, which finally gives her the chance to be seen by humans.
Her first assignment is to stay close to David, a 10-year-old who initially appears to be a runaway, riding alone on a bus in the desert and pilfering tips from a pit stop waitress.
Monica soon discovers that David and his father, a police detective who works day and night, are trying to put their lives together following the death of his infant sister, an event which caused his mother to run away from them.
David, who spends a lot of time alone, is desperately trying to find her by taking bus trips to nearby small towns.
Monica takes a job as David's nanny.
Although she's been warned by Tess (Della Reese), her angel supervisor, to toe the mark and just do as she's instructed, Monica can't resist the impulse to take off and try to locate the boy's mother herself.
Tess attempts to bring Monica back to her senses, without success, and winds up filling in for her instead.
Monica's search takes her to an isolated desert restaurant where she thinks she's hit pay dirt.
