Rock the Block 3
HGTV (DStv 177)
Reality Competition, Reality Makeover, Home Improvement
Lowcountry vibes and high-stakes jibes set the tone for four duos, each with familial ties, to battle it out in the next season of the home renovation competition series Rock the Block.
This time out of the Greater Charleston, South Carolina area, the series again will be hosted by carpenter, craftsman and design expert Ty Pennington.
Four teams of HGTV powerhouse experts, who are either siblings, domestic partners or spouses, will face-off in an epic renovation confrontation that ends with one team winning bragging rights and a street named in their honour.
Competitors include Pacific Northwest twins and real estate bosses Leslie Davis and Lyndsay Lamb (Unsellable Houses), Arkansas home renovation experts Dave and Jenny Marrs (Fixer to Fabulous), Detroit-based designer-builders Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas (Bargain Block) and Atlanta's veteran real estate broker Egypt Sherrod and her builder husband Mike Jackson (Married to Real Estate).
Each team has just six weeks and a budget of $225,000 to renovate identical properties into the ultimate oasis that reflects their distinctive creative vision and real estate expertise.
In the season premiere, "Kitchen Showdown": A member of New Kids on the Block turned renovation expert, Jonathan Knight (Farmhouse Fixer), will be joined by his brother Jordan to determine which competitors created the ideal kitchen for a potential buyer.
Throughout the season, more HGTV stars will arrive on the scene to assess the spaces in each home, including builder and designer Jasmine Roth (Help! I Wrecked My House) who will judge the living room and foyer transformations.
Chicago-based designer and home renovation expert Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab) will join real estate broker and house-flipping expert Page Turner (Fix My Flip) to deliberate about the main bedroom suites.
Mother-daughter duo Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E Laine (Good Bones) will use their real estate and design prowess to evaluate the exterior spaces.
Designing-dad duo and former Rock the Block contestants Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent will make their way to the 'block' to evaluate the finished rooms over the garage and bonus spaces.
Finally, reigning Rock the Block champions Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt (100 Day Dream Home) and Property Brother Drew Scott will stop by for a final home walk-through before announcing the winning team.
M-Net (DStv 101)
Drama, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Fantasy
The return of the epic series will launch with an extended episode, picking up shortly after from traumatizing events that took place at the end of Season 5.
The last time we saw Claire and Jamie, Claire had just escaped a violent encounter with Lionel Brown and returned to Fraser's Ridge.
The threat of the Revolutionary War looms over the ridge and Claire and Jamie must choose what is best for their family.
The sixth season sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie's fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America.
Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina - and perhaps most significantly - during a period of dramatic political upheaval.
The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which - as Claire knows all too well - is unwittingly marching towards Revolution.
Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser's Ridge.
They must now defend this home - established on land granted to them by the Crown - not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care.
For the Frasers and their immediate family, "home" is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives.
If Season 4 asked "What is home?" and Season 5 asked, "What are you willing to do to protect your home?" then Season 6 explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you've created: when you become an outsider, or an 'outlander,' so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.
Adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books, Season 6 is based on material from the sixth book in the Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
In the Season 6 premiere, "Echoes": Jamie's authority is tested when an old rival from Ardsmuir shows up to settle on the Ridge.
Also, Claire finds a new way to cope with the trauma of her assault by Lionel Brown.
Cooks vs. Cons
Real Time (DStv 155)
Food, Reality Competition
The recipe for this series calls for elite cooking skills, agility and adaptability, all simmered with a dash of mystery as a combination of home cooks and trained professionals, whose true identities are concealed, battle it out on the culinary competition Cooks vs. Cons.
Geoffrey Zakarian hosts the action as the competitors are tested in two rounds of challenges to create enticing entrees that must impress a rotating panel of judges, including Kardea Brown, Josh Elkin, Graham Elliot and Daphne Oz.
With a level playing field, the judges will determine the winner based on taste and presentation, and only after the decision has been made will the contestants reveal their true identities.
The pressure is on in each of the six hour-long episodes, as the contestants are on the clock and under the watchful eye of the judging panel, observing their progress in the kitchen.
In order to win, they must tackle two rounds of challenges where a surprise ingredient, such as fruity cereal, orange soda or sour dill pickles, must be incorporated into preparing mouthwatering classic meals like burgers, tacos, meatballs, and mac 'n cheese.
The contestant whose dish does not make the grade will be eliminated after the first round.
Then, the three remaining cooks will go head-to-head in another round with a new secret ingredient.
If a professional's dish is best they will take home a prize of $10,000, but if an amateur can beat the odds and the competition, they are rewarded with an even bigger prize of $15,000.
In the series premiere, "Burger Battle": Professional chefs and home cooks compete for cash in this high stakes burger battle, as judges Graham Elliot and Daphne Oz try to separate the pros from the amateurs.
After a shocking elimination, the remaining competitors must cook their best dishes using tropical fruit.
