This immersive drama is based on the novel by Ian McGuire and stars Jack O'Connell (Unbroken), Colin Farrell (True Detective) and Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire).
Set in Hull, England, and on the ice floes of the Arctic in the late 1850s, the series follows the story of Patrick Sumner, a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as the ship's doctor on a whaling expedition to the Arctic.
But the ferocity of the elements is matched by the violence of his crew mates, particularly Henry Drax, a harpooner and distinctly brutal force of nature.
As the true purpose of the expedition becomes clear, confrontation between the two men erupts, taking them on a journey far from solid ground and way beyond the safe moorings of civilization.
The North Water's location work took place primarily in the Arctic, shooting on the frozen seas north of the Svalbard Archipelago.
The cast and production team sailed as far as 81 degrees north to film sequences in the pack ice, the furthest point north it is believed a drama series has ever filmed before.
In the series premiere: Hull, 1859. Disgraced ex-army surgeon Patrick Sumner (O'Connell) boards a whaling ship bound for the Arctic, also on board is Drax (Farrell), a brutish harpooner and force of nature.
Baxter, the ship's owner, and his Captain, Brownlee (Graham), scheme to ensure the voyage is a profitable one, regardless of the whales caught.
The journey to the ice floes is arduous and the seas are rough.
Will Sumner be able to keep his own secrets safe, keep his growing addiction at bay, and survive the dangers of the journey?

Two people finds themselves at odds with each other in Mismatched: Shaurya and Anokhi.
He's a low life misogynist who believes women shouldn't work or study, and she's a woman who wants to do just that.
Shaurya's bigoted beliefs have arisen because he feels he was deserted by his mother Aastha, who left him to pursue a career and take care of her elderly parents.
She left him unwillingly and he was raised by his aunt and uncle who informed his belief system and values.
In contrast to Shaurya, Anokhi fights the patriarchy by insisting on an education and actively pursuing it.
She goes to college where she meets Aastha who's become a professor. Aastha teaches Anokhi, they form a bond and this how Anokhi meets Shaurya.
In between it all, she suffers the misfortune of marrying and escaping a man called Monty who believes women are "glorified servants".
Shaurya and Anokhi get close after Aastha suffers a life threatening injury and Shaurya reveals that he cares about his mother.
With his more open heart and awareness, he falls in love with Anokhi.

In the Season 3 premiere, "Rocker Dudes vs Designing Moms": Rocker dudes Dave and Ryan are throwing down against designing moms Charlotte and Jill in a battle for Total Flea Market Domination.
The verbal jabs start flying between these two competitive teams while shopping at the Brimfield Antique Show in Brimfield, Massachusetts.
Here, they'll have only one hour and $500 to purchase three projects, including unexpected seating, creating a "funk-tional" piece, and a reimagine project.
Next the teams head into the workshop, where the sparks continue to fly as they makeover their pieces in the hopes of raking in big profits at New York City's Antiques Garage.
The team that comes out on top takes home $5,000.
In the second episode of the weekly double bill, "Bustin' Up and Bustin' Out": Brooklyn buddies Anthony and Jack go up against cute and crafty lovebirds Cole and Kelly.
Both teams get one hour and a $500 budget to race through the Brimfield Antique Show in Brimfield, Massachusetts to shop for design projects that feature chic storage, busted design, and a dining project.
The teams then head into the workshop to bust out their pieces, while busting each other's chops.
In the end, they'll take their reimagined finds to New York City's Antiques Garage, where the team that makes the biggest profit wins $5,000.
