The Black Godfather

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Documentary

The Black Godfather

For decades, the world's most high profile entertainers, athletes and politicians have turned to a single man for advice during the most pivotal moments in their lives and careers, including Grammy winners, Hall of Famers, a Heavyweight Champion of the World and two U.S. Presidents.

That man is Clarence Avant.

The Black Godfather charts the exceptional and unlikely rise of Avant, a music executive whose trailblazing behind-the-scenes accomplishments impacted the legacies of icons such as as Bill Withers, Quincy Jones, Muhammad Ali, Hank Aaron, and Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Driven by a sense of equality, loyalty and justice, Avant left the Jim Crow south behind to emerge as a powerhouse negotiator at a time when deep-seated racism penetrated every corner of America.

Avant defied notions of what a black executive could do, redefining the industry for entertainers and executives of color, and leaving a legacy of altruism for others to emulate.

Featuring interviews with Snoop Dogg, P. Diddy, Lionel Richie, Suzanne de Passe, David Geffen, Jerry Moss, Cicely Tyson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Jamie Foxx, among others, The Black Godfather pulls the curtain back on the maestro himself, projecting a spotlight on the man who's spent his entire career ensuring that it shined on others.

Rush Hour

A reimagining of the feature film franchise, Rush Hour is a buddy-cop drama about a maverick LAPD detective and a by-the-book detective from Hong Kong who knock heads when they are forced to partner together.

Detective Lee is a reserved, honorable master martial artist with lightning-fast moves who comes to L.A. to avenge his sister's alleged death and learn more about her connection to a Chinese organised crime ring.

Detective Carter, on the other hand, is a wisecracking cop who plays by his own rules and has never wanted a partner.

But even as cultures clash and tempers flare, Carter and Lee can't deny they make a formidable team, and grudgingly admit that sometimes an unlikely pairing makes for a great partnership.

A lower level United States Cabinet member was suddenly appointed President after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union killed everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession.

This season, President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) will face a political reality... campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay?

This season will explore today's world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and "fake news."

Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.

With Ryan Martin in a risky race against street racing legend, Gypsy Mike, and Big Chief facing off against Boddie in the battle of the team leaders, there's way more than just money on the line.

And, when racers are desperate for wins, some will always push it too far. And, with the start of a new season the 405 hope to start afresh.

Re-Project Runway... I've been trying to find out if it'll be back for a second season now that Ndalo Media's shut down.

They did a casting call for Season 2 that closed in March this year so I've asked Mzansi Magic (where it originally aired) what's happening with it and they're very vague. Last I heard they said it might be happening towards the end of this year.
