Stranded on Honeymoon Island

The power of love meets the forces of nature.

Davina McCall hosts as unlucky-in-love singles are coupled up and then stranded on a tropical island. Will it be love or loathing?

Twelve singles looking for lifelong love take a giant leap into the unknown, by embarking on honeymoons like no other, with someone they've met at a speed date for just five minutes.

Stranded on six remote, tropical beaches, these six newly-formed couples must communicate and collaborate to get by, with nowhere to run when the going gets tough.

This bold and original dating format seeks to discover if, away from the distractions of modern-day life, love can thrive in isolation.

In the series premiere: Davina rings the bell on a one-of-a-kind speed-dating event where single hopefuls get to date a stranger they could end up marrying.

The only catch? They won't know whom they've been matched with until they meet them again on their wedding day... on the other side of the world.

The first three couples start their stranded lives together, but for one pair, it's not long before a blast from the past threatens to sink their ship.

Lourdes: Faith in Miracles

Channel: HISTORY (DStv 186)

Genre: Documentary, History, Religion

Lourdes: Faith in Miracles

Located at the foot of the Pyrenees, the cave of Massabielle in Lourdes may appear as a modest cavity in the rock.

However, for more than 150 years, it has held an enduring and enigmatic place among the most significant holy sites of Christianity.

Each year, up to four million pilgrims from across the globe journey here to touch the sacred rock where it is said the Virgin Mary appeared.

Such is the worldwide devotion to the cave that over a thousand replicas have been constructed around the world.

Lourdes is a place of fascination as it has been the site of numerous unexplained miracles, with over 70 cures proclaimed, often involving those who were gravely ill or disabled.

The most recent recognised miracle occurred in 2008 when Bernadette Moriau, who had been suffering from an incurable degenerative lumbar root disease, allegedly made a full recovery.

At the origin of all the miracles of Lourdes is the incredible story of Bernadette Soubirous, which would become one of the most fascinating enigmas of the 19th century.

In 1858, the young girl is said to have seen a mysterious young woman dressed in white here and revealed the famous miraculous fountain.

But is the young Bernadette credible? From the beginning, the Church and the police sought to demystify this real phenomenon.

However, very quickly, the cures seem to multiply.

Tuberculosis, blindness, broken bones that heal themselves...

The most spectacular events confound Europe's greatest physicians, in a century where science nevertheless competes with faith.

So, how can we explain the inexplicable?

Experts have tried to unravel the mystery of Lourdes by exploring possibilities such as hypnosis, hysteria and crowd magnetism.

Religious people have also mobilised, setting up an exclusive medical practice.

It is a unique case, among all religions, with the aim of proclaiming only the absolutely incontestable cases.

Thanks to evocations, interviews with the greatest experts, including the current President of the Lourdes Medical Bureau, this is the story of an enigma that has endured over 150 years, and proves, as never before, the power of faith.

Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints

Channel: National Geographic Channel (DStv 181 / StarSat 220)
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: Docu-Drama, Religion

Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints

Hosted, narrated and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, this docu-drama explores the remarkable stories of eight men and women who risked everything to embody humanity's most noble and complex trait - faith.

Each episode focuses on a singular saint, including:

- Joan of Arc,

- John the Baptist,

- Sebastian,

- Maximilian Kolbe,

- Francis of Assisi,

- Thomas Becket,

- Mary Magdalene,

-  and Moses the Black.

Scorsese journeys through over 2,000 years of history focusing on these extraordinary figures and their extreme acts of kindness, selflessness and sacrifice.

In the series premiere, "Joan of Arc": The drama begins with the story of the Hundred Years' War and how a devout 17-year-old daughter of small-town farmers somehow inspired the French army to break the siege of Orleans after St. Catherine, St. Margaret and St. Michael appeared to her.

A fiery leader who promised to drive the English out of France, Joan's role helped bring about the coronation of King Charles VII, and end the long, bloody conflict.

After being captured in 1430 and turned over to the English, she was accused of heresy and witchcraft by Catholic Clergy sympathetic to the English cause.

She was then tried by an ecclesiastical court that despised her, intimidated and threatened her.

Remaining steadfast in her beliefs, she was ultimately burned at the stake with only her heart remaining unscathed in the embers.

Twenty-five years after her death, Joan of Arc was given a new trial and her sentence annulled.

Sainthood would take nearly 500 years, when she was finally canonized in 1920.

Today, she is the patron saint of soldiers.

The Cult Behind the Killer: The Andrea Yates Story

Channel: Investigation Discovery (DStv 171 / StarSat 223)
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: True Crime, Documentary Series

The Cult Behind the Killer: The Andrea Yates Story

When Andrea Yates drowned her five children in the family bathtub one June morning in 2001, the world was left shocked - what could make a young mother do something like that to her own children?

In the wake of her confession, it was established Yates was suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis.

But while understanding of her mental illness helped illuminate Andrea's struggle prior to the incident, in the years following her case the reality has shown to be far more complex.

This three-part docuseries peels back the haunting layers of the cases' complexities, exposing the sinister influence of a cult that twisted her sense of reality - with deadly consequences.

Offering unprecedented insight into Michael Woroniecki, a rogue street preacher turned cult leader, and his connection to Andrea Yates, the series will unravel the deeply tangled layers in which a cult can influence vulnerable individuals through manipulation and control.

It features in-depth interviews with those closely connected to the case, including:

- Andrea's husband, Rusty Yates,

- survivors of the cult including David De La Isla,

- and Woroniecki's own nephew, Moses Storm.

The series illuminates just how Woroniecki's tactics and teachings influenced and drastically altered the lives of his followers.

Including additional interviews, archival footage and expert commentary around mind-control cults, the show challenges commonly held knowledge around this case.

It underscores that Yates is not just the perpetrator of an unimaginable act, but she was also a woman grappling with severe postpartum psychosis, which was driven to tragic extremes by the psychological manipulation of a cult.
