Gangs of Lemur Island

Channel: S3
TX Time: 18h30
Genre: Wildlife, Docu-Reality

Gangs of Lemur Island

A natural history docu-soap following the lives of four rival gangs of lemurs in one of their last wild sanctuaries on the planet - the Berenty Reserve in southern Madagascar.

The Berenty reserve is barely bigger than a few football fields, but it's home to 1,000 ring-tailed lemurs which is half the world's wild population.

In one corner of the reserve live three of the strongest gangs that battle for supremacy over land and resources; each led by a queen.

Battle lines are drawn as two conspiracies of ring-tailed lemurs face the mounting challenges of the dry season.

The series allows an unprecedented look into the highs and lows of life in a lemur family, with individual characters including matriarchs Crystal and Kati, feisty Juliette and ladykiller Morris.

Their personalities show how much like us lemurs really are.

The Earthshot Prize: Repairing Our Planet

Launched by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in October 2020, The Earthshot Prize calls itself "the most prestigious global environment prize in history".

It aims to discover, celebrate and scale innovative solutions to the greatest environmental challenges facing our planet.

The Prize is centered on five Earthshots: Protect and Restore Nature; Clean our Air; Revive our Oceans; Build a Waste-free World; and Fix our Climate.

Featuring Prince William, David Attenborough as well as additional Members of The Earthshot Prize Council, the five-part series showcases the five Earthshot challenges facing the planet as well as highlighting the work of the remarkable 15 Prize Finalists and their groundbreaking solutions to our greatest environmental challenges.

It looks past the problems we face and onto the solutions spotlighting what we have to do to save our planet.

The series includes interviews with Earthshot Prize Council Members including singer and philanthropist Shakira Mebarak, who reflects on her passion for the ocean and the importance of protecting it for future generations.

There's also Japanese engineer and former astronaut onboard the International Space Station, Naoko Yamazaki, who is the only Prize Council Member to view our planet from space and reflects her experience seeing air pollution first-hand.

These champions showcase the environmental challenges facing our planet as well as introduce us to inspiring leaders who are working to provide vital real-world solutions to repair our planet.

Kerkorrel: 20 Jaar Later

Johannes Kerkorrel was responsible for two bombs that hit white Afrikaners: in the late 1980s when he stood as a controversial political figure at the forefront of the Voëlvrytoer, and in 2002 with his sudden suicide.

Ironically, more was written and said about him after his death, than during his life.

This film looks at what made him who he was, his impact on culture, and why people continue to pay tribute to him two decades after his death.

Friends in the music industry share their memories of him, including Amanda Strydom, Karen Meiring, Stef Bos and Valiant Swart.

Willem Möller and Jannie Hanepoot van Tonder, Kerkorrel's band mates in the Gereformeerde Blues Band, are also part of the documentary.
