In 1721, Nataniël's French ancestor, Jean le Roux, waited 17 years to buy a piece of land between Cape Town and Stellenbosch, after he and his family fled to South Africa from Blois in France to start a new life on the farm.
Part of the heritage of the French Huguenots influenced food, agriculture, producing of wine and cookery forever in South Africa.
This is the starting point for host, artist and chef, Nataniël and his new show Terwyl ek Wag.
Every episode has a theme and there is a waiting and preparation of something.
The wait, the build of a new home, food and craft are some of the themes and we learn throughout the series from experts, artists and craftsmen.
The show was filmed in the original - a more than 300-year old farmhouse.
The kitchen, lounge, porch, studio, garden, river, wood, vineyard and farm road is recreated with the help of artists, furniture makers and designers in proper Nataniël style.
The world that is being recreated moves and grows every time. Every moment is picturesque.
Nataniël doesn't just bring consolation with this new show but also stories, historic receipts and tons of surprises, including singing for the show.
Original music was written and recorded for Terwyl ek Wag in two music styles: French classic film music and European Jazz.
Costumes for the show were inspired by the French Huguenot fashion, culture and historic designs from the 17th and early 18th century.
This 13-episode series blends the old and new in a peculiar Nataniël way.
