This year's edition of the SA Sport Awards is geared towards recognising the ways in which sport has boosted social cohesion and nation building in the democratic South Africa, focusing also on the human triumphing spirit.
The nominees this time around - over and above their contribution to sporting excellence - will equally be honoured for their contribution despite various adversities.
This 14th Edition of the Sports Awards coincides with the celebration of 25 years of democracy.
The Sportsman of the Year nominees are canoeist Andrew Birkett, swimmer Chad Le Clos and boxer Moruti Mthalane; the Sportswoman of the Year nominees are netballer Karla Pretorius, swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker and runner Caster Semenya.
The public-voted The People's Choice of the Year nominees are footballers Percy Tau and Thembi Kgatlana, Sprinbgok captain Siya Kolisi, marathon runner Gerda Steyn and netballer Bongiwe Msomi.
And just when you thought you'd heard it all: one of the nominees for Team of the Year is the Sheep Shearing Team. Is that even a thing? Baaa!
Mrs South Africa 2019

At the end of each episode, a car is chosen. But will Spike agree with the buyer's choice? For that matter, will you?
