Documentary series exploring the lives of prominent and iconic African Queens.
The first season will cover the life of Njinga, the complex, captivating, and fearless 17th century warrior queen of Ndongo and Matamba, in modern day Angola.
The nation's first female ruler, Njinga earned a reputation for her blend of political and diplomatic skill with military prowess and became an icon of resistance.
Adesuwa Oni stars as the warrior queen and the cast includes local actors Thabo Rametsi and Zethu Dlomo.
In the series premiere: Princess Njinga lives in Kabasa with her brothers and two sisters.
The favourite of her father the king, she trains with her father's warriors and learns the art of diplomacy at her father's knee.
By the time Njinga is a young woman, the Portuguese — who had invaded the region some 30 years before she was born — have ramped up their quest for slave labour to work their sugar plantations across their growing empire.
They have conquered and subjugated local nobles in the region, making them pay an annual tribute of Africans to slavery.
Njinga's father has managed to avoid subjugation but pays the price in constant raids to feed the slave trade in which by now some African rulers had themselves become complicit, or risk annihilation.
When he is killed by one of his own generals a power struggle ensues.
Njinga's brother Mbande stages a bloody coup that includes killing Njinga's baby son as well as imprisoning his sisters.
Ultimately, Njinga leaves the city of Kabasa in search of an alliance with one of the deadliest groups of mercenary warriors, the Imbangala, led by Kasa.
Schitt's Creek

The series centres on filthy rich video store magnate Johnny Rose, his soap star wife Moira and their two kids, über-hipster son David and socialite daughter Alexis, after they suddenly find themselves broke.
They are forced to live in Schitt's Creek, a depressing small town they once bought as a joke.
This is a familiar tale but with fresh characters and a quirky spin - rags to riches in reverse.
The Rose family loses their entire fortune when they are informed they have been the victim of a Bernie Madoff-style Ponzi scheme.
They are left with just one asset - Schitt's Creek - a town that was purchased, in jest, by Johnny as a gift for his son.
The Roses have no choice but to live there in a motel and start again.
As extreme fish out of water, they are forced to confront life without the luxurious amenities they once knew.

This season: Off the release of their debut album and their continued rise to fame, we follow the Wu-Tang Clan over the course of their five-year plan as they face and overcome different challenges.
While each of the members go on separate journeys to figure out where they fit in the music world, RZA struggles to stay on top of things in order to fulfill the promise he made to his Wu brothers.
As money, fame, ego and business threaten to tear the group apart, they must find a way to come together and cement their legacy.

Red Rose will explore the precarious relationship between teenagers and their online lives and the seductive power of what is not real versus what is and often less exciting.
But ultimately it is a story of friendship told through the prism of a classic horror-thriller.
