Homegrown Tastes South Africa

Celebrating the flair of our local culinary landscape, this show follows chef and TV personality Lorna Maseko on a culinary expedition across South Africa.

From gatsbys at sea level to tasty treats in our highest town, Dullstroom, Lorna will spend each episode sampling various tantalising delights, meeting a feast of local heroes along the way.

In each episode, Lorna is joined by a special celeb guest and, together, they meet the chefs and personalities behind our best street food and haute cuisine.

Along the way, Lorna will explore the exceptional ingredients grown in South Africa as she samples fine wines, seafood, decadent desserts and more.

To close each episode, she celebrates the hero ingredients of the region by preparing her own delicious version of what the area has to offer.

Celebrities appearing in the series include Karabo Poppy, Pearl Modiadie, Kamohelo Bombe, Tracey-lee Oliver, Khaya Mthethwa and Jo-Ann Strauss.

In the series premiere, "Urban Street Food": famed illustrator Karabo Poppy joins Lorna to discover some of South Africa's greatest street foods.

They start by visiting Chilli Pepper restaurant in Soweto to try a true local classic, the Kota.

Next, they head over to The Filthy Moustache and Turn It Up Food to experience love at first bite.

Lorna's next stop lands her in Downtown Joburg, where she meets Chef Siya and tries out his signature skopo and pap recipe.

She also meets the owners of Linden Loaves and Jabu Atchar, where she finds out even more about the hero ingredients – sourdough bread and atchar.

Using the episode's key ingredients and the tips she has learnt along the way, Lorna crafts her own delicious meal for Karabo Poppy to enjoy – a kota with atchar, mayo and sweet potato fries.

We'd all be drowning in faeces, rotting plants and animal corpses, were it not for the clean up crew.

Often unfairly despised, we should see these animals, crabs, dung beetles, vultures and crows as our heroes, keeping us safe from diseases.
