The Story of German Beer

Channel: Curiosity Channel (DStv 185)
TX Time: 21h00

The Story of German Beer

This documentary looks at the history of beer, starting with the Sumerians who invented it 5,000 years ago through to the leading export of today and the new trend of the future: craft beer.

Prince Luitpold of Bavaria: if Germany were still a monarchy, he would be the King of Bavaria.

What does this have to do with beer? His Highness brewed one of the best beers in Bavaria.

It's no wonder that he did, since it was one of his ancestors that introduced the Reinheitsgebot (German purity law) in 1516.

The only ingredients permitted are hops, malt and water. 500 years of pure beer, without chemicals, flavour enhancers or colour additive additives as is common in the rest of the world.

There are 5,000 different beers in Germany, produced in more than 1,300 breweries.

Great beer has always been synonymous with Germany. Let's find out why.

Great British Gardens: Season by Season 2

Great British Gardens takes us on a guided tour, throughout the seasons, of four of the most beautiful and important gardens in Britain.

Each episode explores one stunning garden, and taking us though them is gardening guru Carol Klein.

Carol visits each garden, meets the people who care for them, and learns the secrets of some of Britain's most treasured outdoor spaces.

Now she embarks on another season by season tour, visiting some of Britain's favourite and most remarkable gardens, through a whole year.

Each episode explores one inspiring garden: from the epic splendour of Arundel Castle Gardens, to the minutely tended borders of Coton Manor, or Wollerton Old Hall Gardens.

And from the pioneering plantsmanship at Bressingham Hall and Beth Chatto Gardens, to two jewels in the crown of Wales' horticultural heritage – and more.

Channel: M-Net (DStv 101)
TX Time: 23h30
Genre: Comedy

Curb Your Enthusiasm 11

Stars Seinfeld co-creator Larry David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalised life.

The series continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one's day-to-day life - a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush - can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events.

To keep the narrative spontaneous, the series is shot without a script and cast members are given scene outlines and improvise lines as they go.

In the Season 11 premiere, "The Five-Foot Fence": A discovery in Larry's backyard threatens to derail his latest creative venture, while a clumsy mishap threatens the future of his latest romance.

Albert Brooks hosts an unprecedented event, and Leon makes arrangements for an upcoming trip.

In the second episode of the weekday double bill, "Angel Muffin": Larry is forced to attend an ill-fated work meeting and investigates the truth behind a faulty toilet.

Determined to unravel a mystery of his own, Jeff employs Larry's detective skills.
