Shaleen Surtie-Richards: 'I Am Who I Am'
M-Net (DStv 101)
Shaleen Surtie-Richards passed away on Monday 6 June and her trail-blazing career has been made into a never-before seen documentary.
In 1988, Shaleen portrayed the title role of Fiela Komoetie in the Katinka Heyns film Fiela se Kind – a groundbreaking achievement for an actress of colour during Apartheid South Africa.
With her portrayal of Ester "Nenna" Willemse, the spirited caregiver of Marlborough Mansions in the M-Net soapie Egoli: Place of Gold, she gained widespread recognition.
The documentary was commissioned to celebrate a South African icon and was in its final stages of post-production when the news of her passing was announced.
In this intimate documentary, we revisit Shaleen's life from her childhood in Upington and her first baby steps on the Upington school stage to far grander stages and greater audiences.
Marc Lottering, Sandra Prinsloo, Pieter-Dirk Uys, Brümilda van Rensburg, Katinka Heyns, Patricia de Lille, Bobby Heaney, Kevin Smith and others share their memories and stories of a woman who lived her life in defiance of stereotypes.
In her own words: "I don't have time for pretence in my life. So, if you ask me who am I, then I will tell you: I am who am".

True Crime, Documentary Series

At the heart of each episode is the story of someone who has been forced to confront unimaginable horror and yet has lived to tell the tale, in crimes ranging from a vicious and unprovoked stabbing by a stranger and a diabolical acid attack, to the victim of a three-hour filmed torture session and a 13-year reign of terror and abuse.
In each case, Denise Welch meets up with the survivors to find out what was going through their minds at every stage of the crime, how they found the inner strength to survive and face their attackers in court, and how the devastating turn of events irrevocably altered their lives.
The series will feature interviews with friends and family of the survivors and a criminal barrister's expert commentary.

The Rise of The Murdoch Dynasty
M-Net (DStv 101)
The incredible story of Rupert Murdoch's influence on world events and the dramatic personal battle for power at the heart of his own family.
In the series premiere, "Kingmaker": We meet Rupert Murdoch in 1995, a pivotal year that sees him presiding over two important dilemmas - who he wants to be Britain's next prime minister and which of his children he wants to take over his business.
This episode charts the growing relationship between Rupert Murdoch and Tony Blair, and the Murdoch press and Blair's Labour Party - a relationship that becomes almost uncomfortably close.
Critics claim that Murdoch's organisation cultivated too much influence over the British government – lobbying for war in Iraq, enjoying open access to the prime minister and favourable treatment when it comes to business.
Supporters, however, claim that this is how business works, not least when you are as influential as Rupert Murdoch.
Murdoch's family dynamic is rocked when he marries a woman 37 years his junior, polarising the children and jeopardising Murdoch's plans for succession.
Just as Murdoch is approaching the peak of his powers and influence in the UK, cracks begin to appear that point to deeper, darker problems within his empire.

Salvage Kings 2
HISTORY (DStv 186)
Salvage Kings returns full throttle for another season of thrilling demolitions and extraordinary finds by the team at Priestly Demolition.
Leading the charge is Head of Salvage Ted Finch and his crew – modern-day treasure hunters who stop at nothing to uncover rare and valuable objects from buildings that are on the verge of demolition.
They are pushed to their limits as they scour through demanding demolition sites to ensure no hidden gems are left behind and lost forever.
This year, the stakes are high. Company president Ryan Priestly devises an expansion plan for the salvage team that will transform their operation.
It's a gamble, but if successful, the expansion could yield big rewards for the company.
The undertaking also means a personnel shake-up for the close-knit crew. Three new members join the team, causing some friction as the old and new guard adapt to each other.
Their salvage missions may be high-pressure, but that doesn't stop Ted and his team from approaching their work with humour and passion as they crisscross through amazing locations to rescue treasured items from destruction.
No stone is left unturned as the salvage team scavenges through cities, towns and villages, and into buildings of all types.
Every object tells a story – and there's no telling what the Salvage Kings will find, nor where their incredible discoveries will end up.
In the Season 2 premiere: The salvage team from Priestly Demolition takes their first road trip of the year to a historic mining town, where the discovery of old police reports sends them on an unexpected hunt for hidden gold.
