Your People, My People
HISTORY (DStv 186)
Documentary, Science, History
Ever asked yourself the age-old question of 'where did I come from?' or 'how did my family end up living in South Africa?'
This special takes a look at the dynamics of researching your genealogical line in South Africa.
The documentary takes four South African strangers on a quest to trace their ancestry and discover the science and history behind DNA testing which ultimately shaped who they are.
One will be blindsided, while for another the result will expose surprising links to an historical global figure.
The locally produced show, hosted by news and TV personality Pat Pillai and magazine editor Les Aupiais, is a journey of discovery using science to reveal the history of four ordinary South Africans: radio personalities Minnie Ntuli and Jason McCall, together with Sashica Ramlutch and Keandré Brahim.
The four travel to places and spaces in history and participate in activities based on their gene pool.
From an emotional reenactment of the Battle of Blood River, to spending a sun-beaten day as indentured labourers, they learn as much about themselves as they do each other.

Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling, the original stars of Beverly Hills, 90210, return in a miniseries the takes the concept of a series reboot to a whole new meta-level.
When the cast gets back together, it will come with a big twist: the seven former teen idols will be playing heightened versions of themselves in the serialised drama - with a healthy dose of irreverence - that is inspired by their real lives and relationships with each other.
Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Jason, Shannen, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it's time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running.
But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself.
What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this cast attempts to continue from where they left off?

For Sama is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war.
A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab's life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her.
Her camera captures incredible stories of loss, laughter and survival as Waad wrestles with an impossible choice: whether or not to flee the city to protect her daughter's life, when leaving means abandoning the struggle for freedom for which she has already sacrificed so much.
Voetspore 9: Madagaskar
kykNET (DStv 144)
This season, the Voetspore team travels to Madagascar.
Collecting the Cruisers at Tamatave, they travel north. From the main island they take a ferry to Ile Sainte Marie, the island of the pirates.
Here they meet Ockie Snyman, a South African living in Madagascar for more than 15 years on the small island Ile aux Nattes.
After returning to the main island the team sets off on the RN5, the notorious national road along the east coast of Madagascar.
Travelling to the isolated south of Madagascar offers many surprises. En route to the coastal town of Lavanono the team drives through a sand desert, resembling a mini Namib. Lavanono itself is a quaint fishing village.
The southernmost point of the island is the wind swept Cap Saint Marie, situated in a sanctuary for the endemic tortoises of Madagascar.
The next point on the journey is the even more barren Faux Cap, where eggshells of the now extinct elephant bird can be found.
The first episode concludes with a visit to the Mandrare Rive Camp, Madagascar's first eco lodge.
Nearing the end of the journey, the team first visits the exceptional artisans of Ambositra, then returns for a last visit to the capital Antananarivo before heading to the coastal resorts along the Pangalanes, south of Tamatave.
The visit to Madagascar comes to an end with the vehicles shipped back to South Africa from Tamatave, a taxi drive back to the capital and a flight back to South Africa.
Voetspore in Madagascar was the first expedition outside the African continent and offered an insight into a unique, sometimes strange and often surprising island in the Indian Ocean.
