The Stolen Girl

This series tells the story of fascinating, relatable and complex women in an unimaginable situation.

A seemingly ordinary decision turns the world of Elisa, mum to two young kids, upside down in this tense thriller.

When her nine-year-old daughter Lucia excitedly asks to go on an overnight playdate with her new best friend Josie, Elisa agrees.

After meeting Josie's mother, Rebecca, she's put at ease by her charming nature and their impressive house.

But when she says goodnight to her daughter, she has no idea that she is about to be thrust into every parent's worst nightmare.

The next day, when Elisa goes to pick up Lucia, she discovers that the beautiful house was a holiday rental.

Lucia is missing. Rebecca and Josie have vanished. What started out as her daughter's first sleepover has turned into an abduction.

As an urgent manhunt unfolds across Europe, Elisa and her husband Fred find themselves the object of police and public scrutiny.

Elisa's perfect family begins to unravel under the pressure, and long-buried secrets come to light. Rebecca took Lucia for a reason.

And as viewers learn more about the tangled lives of these women, the question of whether Rebecca was justified in kidnapping the little girl arises – and if she might be better off staying hidden.

Mary & George

Channel: M-Net (DStv 101)
TX Time: 22h10
Genre: Drama, Period Drama, Miniseries

Mary & George

Mary & George is an historical psychodrama about a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of King James I.

Julianne Moore stars in this series based on the true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful son, George, to seduce King James I and become his all-powerful lover.

Based on Benjamin Woolley's novel, The King's Assassin: The Fatal Affair of George Villiers and James I, Mary & George intricately details how the Countess of Buckingham (Moore), moulded her son George to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover, making her family richer, more titled and more influential than any other in England.

The first three episodes of the series are directed by South African director Oliver Hermanus, in his first foray into television.

Having succeeded the childless Elizabeth I to become England's first Scottish king, James I isolated himself within his court – and was open to being courted by those who shared his indulgences.

Mary, Countess of Buckingham – having lost her fortune when her first husband died – spotted the opportunity to introduce her handsome and well-educated son, George, into the Royal Court as Royal Cup-Bearer in 1614.

As the man responsible for serving and preserving the safety of the King's drinks, he used his proximity to James to ingratiate himself into every facet of the ruler's life, including his bedroom, his decisions on domestic and foreign policy and secured the title of Duke of Buckingham in the space of just under a decade.

Mary & George takes a raunchy, unabashed look at the excesses of the Jacobean era – a time when William Shakespeare and Ben Jonson rose to cultural prominence and a new version of the Bible was commissioned by the Monarch, known today as the widely-used King James version.

In the series premiere, "The Second Son": Mary Villiers develops a cunning plan to transform her family's fortunes forever, but first she must convince her beautiful but disobedient son George to rise to the occasion and claim their destiny.
