Animal Arms Race

Channel: Curiosity Channel (DStv 185)
TX Time: 22h00
Genre: Wildlife, Documentary Series

Animal Arms Race

Every animal on the planet is armed with a weapon of some kind.

Crocodiles have teeth, jaguars have claws and cheetahs rely on their speed.

Predators are the most well-armed, but surprisingly they're the ones who usually lose.

Most hunts end in failure, foiled by the ingenious defence systems developed by their prey – shells, spines, poison and camouflage honed over the eons.

Others animals battle with their own kind in duels of strength and cunning which determine who will get to reproduce.

Some have evolved weapons specifically for these jousting bouts – giant horns, huge noses and brilliant displays of colour.

Parents also fight to protect their young and every animal is highly tuned to its home arena.

Whether on the open plains, the depths of the jungle or on the high seas, all are put to the test in the great Animal Arms Race.

In the series premiere, "Jungles": More animal warriors compete in the world's lush jungles and dense forests than anywhere else on the planet.

Home to 80% of all species on land, it's a place riddled with hiding places and elaborate escape routes.

This complex hunting arena demands some of the deadliest weaponry.

Standing out from the crowd to attract a mate also presents its challenges.

Yet the crocodiles, jaguars, sloths, giant otters, bearded pigs insects and birds who make their home here are up to the test.

In every episode, Ed faces a different and equally skilled opponent in the race to be the first to reach a pre-determined extraction point, on a journey fraught with danger.

From the huge cliffs and bamboo forests of Bashan to the mountains and waterfalls of Yunnan Province, he may be able to survive almost anywhere or anything, but so can these extraordinary people.

With speed as important as survival, who will be the first to escape these lethal landscapes in a country with some of the world's most extreme climates?

In the Season 3 premiere, "Scotland": Ed challenges endurance athlete Matt Graham to a rematch in Scotland's cold and brutal highlands.

They must endure freezing conditions to make it to Ben Nevis.

Their loved ones want them to start living their lives as individuals rather than as a unit.

Born in Vosloorus, the 31-year-old sisters' tough childhood brought them even closer than expected - so close that they were married the same man for nine years.

Now divorced and with daughters born two months apart fathered by the ex-husband, the twins are on a journey to accept their spiritual calling as prophets – and to find a new husband.

Raised by their grandmother, we follow the sisters as they navigate a tricky relationship with their birth mother and spiritual mother, while also navigating the dating scene - with the end goal of finding a husband who will marry them both.

Will any man put a ring on both their fingers, or will the sisters have to accept what everyone is telling them – that it's time to live separate lives?

Body Cam 4

In the field of policing on the front line, an instant decision can be a matter of life or death.

This series steps into the officers' shoes as body camera footage, along with first-hand accounts, reveals the shocking reality of life on the streets for law enforcement officers.

Each episode tells multiple stories of those who vowed to protect and serve in unflinching detail, offering their own personal perspective of officers in life-threatening circumstances.

With backstories delivering an intense emotional punch, the series profiles how quickly seemingly routine situations can escalate into tragic altercations.

For these law enforcement officers, life on patrol can be anything but routine.

In the Season 4 premiere, "Feeling Lucky?": In Wisconsin, a burglar in handcuffs escapes police custody in a squad car and goes into hiding.

In Oklahoma, a simple conversation ends up in a shoot-out at a gas station with an officer down.

Reasonable Doubt 2

Channel: Real Time (DStv 155)
TX Time: 22h30
Genre: True Crime, Documentary Series

Reasonable Doubt 2

In a justice system that's not always so just, families can be tormented by the question of guilt or innocence of their convicted loved ones.

Reasonable Doubt returns with all-new episodes profiling the gut-wrenching process of re-exploring murder cases where the perpetrators convicted of the crime maintain their innocence.

In the second season, retired homicide detective Chris Anderson teams with his new partner, criminal defence attorney Fatima Silva, to pore through evidence, interview witnesses and consult experts previously overlooked by police or barred by the court.

At the end of each episode, the determined investigators evaluate their findings and either offer the convicted's family hope for an appeal, or clarity to accept the guilty verdict.

2011 was the year 19-year old KC Grondin got his first girlfriend. It's also the year he was charged with her murder.

Chris and Fatima reopen the case to see if KC's family is right to believe that his conviction was a grave injustice, or if the prosecution got it right and KC was an angry teenager driven to kill for lust and money.

Other cases profiled this season include: a down and out 20-something accused of murdering her parents for money; a newlywed found guilty of drowning his wife in their bathtub; a rapper who was convicted of killing a fan in a crowded nightclub; a pest control worker who was convicted of brutally murdering a 71-year-old socialite; a serial cheater who was found guilty of killing his wife in a seedy motel room; and more.

In the Season 2 premiere, "Suburban Tragedy": In August 2008, newlywed Sarah Widmer died in one of two ways: either she was taking a bath and drowned, or her husband Ryan killed her.

Chris and Fatima investigate to see if there's enough evidence to prove his innocence.
