Rise Again: Tulsa and the Red Summer

National Geographic Documentary Films partnered with filmmaker Dawn Porter on this feature documentary that sheds new light on a century-old period of intense racial conflict.

Rise Again: Tulsa and the Red Summer comes just over 100 years after the two-day Tulsa Massacre in 1921 that led to the murder of hundreds of black people and left thousands homeless and displaced.

Award-winning journalist and Oklahoma native DeNeen Brown is at the heart of the film, reporting on the search for a mass grave in her native state.

Digging into the events that led to one of the worst episodes of racial violence in America's history, Brown reveals insights into racial-conflict incidents that erupted in the early 20th century.

Brown's reporting highlights the revived call for justice for victims and survivors.

Following a 2018 investigative report, Brown explores the current new anti-racism movement in the context of the Tulsa Massacre and the Red Summer.

With access to family members of those killed, city officials, archaeologists and historians, the film reveals the decades-long effort by descendants and community members to find the victims' bodies and unearth truths that have been suppressed for nearly a century.

The documentary also untangles the role the media played in covering events at the time in order to reveal the full extent of the nation's buried past.

The Way of the Cheetah

Channel: Nat Geo Wild (DStv 182 / StarSat 221)
TX Time: 18h00
Genre: Wildlife, Documentary

The Way of the Cheetah

There really is no other big cat on the planet that is like a cheetah.

These are the most fragile cats physically and in numbers, now under 7,000 left in the world.

This story tells of Immani, a sleek female with four new cubs as they navigate the vast plains of the Mara ecosystem.

But living here is also a coalition of five males, and to save her cubs Immani must avoid them.

The film goes under the cover of darkness with thermal cameras, capturing the lush colours of Africa.

But when it comes to the hunting scenes, as these shape-shifting cats appear from nowhere in a blur, captured in ultra-high speed motion, the battles turn epic.

The film was made by Dereck and Beverly Joubert, who have made dozens of big cat films for National Geographic over nearly 40 years - but never one about cheetahs.

Channel: Comedy Central (DStv 122)
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: Animation, Comedy

South Park 25

The show is set in the Colorado town of South Park, where weird things keep happening - whether it's being abducted by aliens, overrun with panhandlers or faking illness so as not to get into trouble.

South Park's controversial characters are Eric Cartman, the rude, obnoxious, sadistic, racist, fat kid; Stan Marsh, a quiet kid with a huge crush on Wendy Testaberger; Kyle Brofloski, the religious Jewish kid who Cartman picks on for being Jewish; and Kenny, the orange parka-hooded kid who dies in every episode.

In the Season 25 premiere, "Pajama Day": After failing to show respect for their teacher, PC Principal revokes Pajama Day privileges for the entire 4th grade class.

Cartman is distraught. The kids aren't going to stand for it, but PC Principal refuses to back down.

Animal Builders

Animal Builders

People are not the only ones to show ingenuity when it comes to architecture - some animal constructions can even outshine them.

Through four adventures in animal building, this film explores the incredible architectural secrets of the natural world, closely examining each species' unique genius.

There's the hydraulic genius of the beaver, in the wet grassland of Wyoming, the chromatic genius of the bowerbird in the thick Australian bush; the nest-building genius of the Tanzanian chimpanzee; and the collective genius of the red wood ant on the edges of the Jura woods.

This documentary plunges us right into these structures to discover millennial architectural instincts that hold the key to each species' survival.
