We all have a bridge we must cross – something in our lives we need to overcome.
And when we reach the other side, we look back at the journey and realise we had the tools to build the bridge ourselves all along.
This is the concept upon which this international-format reality competition series Die Brug (The Bridge) is based.
The show places 12 strangers in a remote wilderness in the vicinity of Swellendam.
Their task is to build a bridge within 20 days in the hope of walking away with prize money of R1-million.
In the process of constructing a bridge to reach the prize money, there are twists and turns that challenge the status quo.
The players' social skills, moral values, physical and mental strength and endurance are all put to the ultimate test.
Will the game affect their moral values? Can they work together in a team? Who will act selfishly?
Will the players resist the temptation to stab each other in the back? Who will ultimately cross the bridge?
And will they choose to share the prize money or keep it all for themselves?
Die Brug incorporates elements of adventure and explores the drama that unfolds when a group is put under tremendous pressure.
The title has a symbolic meaning too because the players also find themselves in situations in their own lives where they must cross bridges to unlock their potential and reach new shores.
This deepens the human drama and makes the series a battle for the participants to overcome their own limitations.
Key terminology in Die Brug:
Houthuis (Log Cabin)
Where the players live and work. It consists of a sleeping area, a living area, a workshop and a jetty.
Toring (Tower)
250 metres from the shore. This is the ultimate destination because that's where the prize money awaits.
Eiland (Island)
Where the Tower and the prize money are. Players must build a bridge to get there.
Posvlot (Mail Raft)
Halfway between the shore and the Tower. This is where players must go to retrieve messages and instructions.
Poskan (Mailbox)
The vessel through which players receive messages and instructions.
Fakkels (Flares)
Used to alert players when there is a new mail delivery.
Verwydering (Elimination)
Refers to a player who is sent home. It can happen at any time.
Unlike other reality shows, there are never the same rules or mechanisms for elimination. It is just as unpredictable as the event itself.
When players are removed, they must pack their belongings, take a boat and immediately leave the game.

Another Tyler Perry creation, this is the story of a family placed in the White House by people of power, highlighting the personal side and everyday lives of the staff who run the inner workings of the nation's most iconic residence.
Characters include Richard, the esteemed White House butler who has served several administrations at the White House, his loving wife Nancy and his son Barry, a young dad to his 4-year old daughter Callie.
There's also Sharon, the girlfriend to Barry who works at a local pharmacy.
Then there's Donald, the Chief of Staff at The White House for Hunter Franklin, the newly elected President of the United States. He is smart, demanding and manipulative.
Lilly is a fashion designer who is married to Donald and Priscilla is the residence staff supervisor at the White House. She is married to Sam, the President's secret service agent.
Kyle is a secret service agent at the White House. He is an ex-Marine who is direct and unwavering. He takes direction, but seems to be always operating with a different outcome in mind.
Bobby is handsome and rugged. After meeting Lilly Winthrop on a plane, neither of their lives will ever be the same again.
Kareem owns a local pharmacy in Washington, D.C., along with his father. He is a hard-working young man.
He may be in a relationship but his heart longs for Sharon, who also works at the pharmacy and is in a committed relationship with Barry.
In the Season 5 premiere, "Turning Tables": Victoria devises an alternative strategy after Hunter finds himself in a dangerous predicament.
Also, Bobby finds himself taking the brunt of Priscilla's hatred towards Sam.

Survivor 38: Edge of Extinction

This edition, themed "Edge of Extinction," features 18 castaways divided into two equal tribes, the Manu Tribe and the Kama Tribe.
Four returning players will join the 14 castaways who will be competing for the first time.
The returning castaways are Joe Anglim (Worlds Apart, Second Chance), Aubry Bracco (Kaoh Rong, Game Changers), Kelley Wentworth (Second Chance, San Juan del Sur) and David Wright (Millennials vs. Gen-X).
This season presents a new layer to the game with the introduction of the island known as "Edge of Extinction," which severely tests the will of the castaways to be the Sole Survivor and what they are willing to endure to make that happen.
Those who can withstand the emotionally and physically difficult challenge will be afforded a shot for one of them to get back in the game and continue their quest for $1-million.
These new and returning castaways will be forced to compete against each other with the same ultimate goal: to outwit, outplay and outlast each other, and in the end only one will remain to claim the title of Sole Survivor.
The show was filmed in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji, and is hosted by Jeff Probst.
