Loved Like Crazy
Lifetime (DStv 131)
Femicide in South Africa is five times the global average. According to police statistics, a woman is murdered every three hours in South Africa.
Studies show that more than half of these are at the hands of an intimate partner. So why don't women just leave?
What this film attempts to show is that leaving an abusive relationship is a process and not an event.
The documentary casts a lens on relationships that sent shock waves across the nation, revisited now for clues that could have forewarned of the danger that lay ahead.
Experts focus on pathologies and patterns of violence that may be helpful in helping understand how the cycle of violence works.
What does it look and feel like? What are the red flags? How does it escalate and when does it become potentially lethal?
The intention of the documentary is also to demystify domestic abuse.
Loved Like Crazy takes you through the phenomenon of trauma bonding, the dangerous ties created by toxic love that trap women in a cycle of abuse.
A woman who knows this cycle well is veteran journalist and author Iman Rappetti, who experienced the co-existence of abuse with love behaviours through her parents and their relationship.
Iman guides us through each stage of the cycle of abuse and helps us see that Reeva, Karabo, Babes and Annelise could be any of us.

Soviet Storm: World War II in the East 2
HISTORY (DStv 186)
History, Documentary Series
An epic television history of the Second World War's Eastern Front, giving an unprecedented Russian perspective on the war's most decisive and bloody theatre.
This was a conflict of staggering scale and savagery. Four out of five German soldiers killed in World War Two died on the Eastern Front.
The Red Army suffered 10 times as many deaths as the Western Allies combined. The total dead on all sides was more than 30-million, most of them civilians.
The war was seen by both sides as a struggle for existence. In that light, Hitler and Stalin were prepared to accept losses on any scale to achieve final victory.
Soviet Storm tells the story of this titanic clash of arms blow by blow.
Using archive film and photography, computer-generated imagery and innovative reconstructions, from the German invasion of 22 June, 1941 (Operation Barbarossa, the largest military operation in history), through to the brutal fighting outside the gates of Moscow.
In the Season 2 premiere, "The Battle of Kiev": As September ended, the Germans found the Dnieper line impossible to hold as the Soviet bridgeheads grew and important Dnieper towns started to fall.
Finally, early in November, the Soviets broke out of their bridgeheads on either side of Kiev and captured the Ukrainian capital.
