Julie Bowen is an American actress best known for playing Ed's love interest Carol Vessey in 83 episodes of the sitcom Ed, as well as the ambitiously aggressive attorney Denise Bauer in the dramedy series Boston Legal, playing the role from 2005-2008.

She also stars as Clare Dunphy in the mockumentary television comedy series Modern Family.

She had a nine-episode recurring role on the fifth season of medical drama ER and a four-episode recurring role on the sitcom Jake In Progress.

She also appeared in four episodes of Lost as Sarah Shephard, Jack's ex-wife.

She has made guest appearances on numerous shows, including Loving; Acapulco H.E.A.T.; Party Of Five; Dawson's Creek; and Justice League.

She has also appeared in a number of feature films, including Happy Gilmore (1996); Multiplicity (1996); An American Werewolf in Paris (1997); You're Killing Me... (2001); Amy's Orgasm (2001); Venus and Mars (2001); Partner(s) (2005); and Sex and Death 101 (2007).
