A skilled young public prosecutor is pulled into a brutal prison syndicate led by the brother she thought she lost, forcing her to choose between justice and family, law and survival, truth and betrayal.
The seven-episode drama is an adaptation of the Brazilian series Brotherhood and is centred on a brilliant young public prosecutor Mbali (played by Nunu Khumalo) whose life is turned upside down when she is drawn into a ruthless prison syndicate run by her brother, Moses (Tony Kgoroge).
Torn between family loyalty and her duty to uphold the law, Mbali is forced to join forces with Moses to protect their younger brother, Sphelele (Given Stuurman).
Mbali is on a collision course with iGazlam' - The Brotherhood - a ruthless prison syndicate run from the shadows by the very brother she had spent 14 years mourning as dead.
It starts with a case that seems worlds away from her own life.
It ends with Mbali standing in the wreckage of everything she believed about her family.
A decade after she was told her brother Moses died behind bars, he resurfaces - a hardened survivor, reshaped by the system that swallowed him, with a warning for his sister: the brother she once knew is gone.
As a wave of violence tears through the city, every trail leads back to him.
With high-stakes twists, complex family dynamics and impossible moral dilemmas, Umthetho asks a simple but devastating question: when family and justice collide, which side do you choose?
