What we know about The Estate Season 3

We have lift-off on a premiere date for Season 3 of The Estate with news on what to expect.

We were concerned it would never return - you know the SABC mos - but our worries were unfounded because it's back on Monday 18 July, in its usual timeslot at 19h00. Fingers crossed of course!

The season picks up after Muzi Phakathwayo was believed to be dead at the end of Season 2 and it doesn't seem as if he's coming back because Sdumo Mtshali, who played him, isn't credited in the returning cast list in the SABC's press release.

But that could be a red herring to throw us off and he is actually returning so we can't say for sure.

If you've missed the series so far and want to know about the scenario and themes, you'll find everything you need to know by tapping here: The Estate TVSA Show Page

The action of Season 3 remains centred round the families and residents of the luxury Echelon Estate and those who live in the neighbouring Thembalethu township.

Six new notable characters are going to be introduced, headlined by the Nobengela family.

They are:

Melisizwe and Noxolo Nobengela
Played by Dumisani Mbebe and Lerato Mvelase

Melisizwe is a businessman and political fixer associated with Castro Kamanga, the premiere of Gauteng - reprised by Aubrey Poo.

His wife Noxolo owns an interior design business.

They've relocated to Joziburg and Melisizwe's going to work side-by-side with Castro when he faces growing protests by the Thembalethu Land Association outside the Echelon gates.

Things are going to turn dangerous for everyone involved.

Melisizwe and Noxolo have three children...

Mzolisi
Played by Anga Makubalo

Vukani
Played by Siya Xaba

Gcinekile
Played by Samke Makhoba

Also new: Mohau Kabi, played by Gen fave Moopi Mothibeli.

Mohau's described as a smart Bachelor of Science engineering student.

Confirmed comeback cast and characters are:
Lorcia Cooper as Jo,
Jo-anne Reyneke as Lwandle,
Dineo Langa as Mmakoena,
Matli Mohapeloa as Lesiba,
Mpho Sibeko as Dumisani,
Zenokuhle Maseko as Sindi,
Jacques Blignaut as Martin,
Sparky Xulu as Siya,
Clementine Mosimane as Mmatshepo and,
Carla Claasen as Tessa

Lwandle has to carry the stress of Muzi's misdeeds - she's been burdered with his debt - and there's drahma when Lesiba finds out about his wife Mmakoena's betrayal.

So muzi phakathwayo is no more? Can't imagine the series without him but will see. Excited to see the new cast. The head writer is Bongi ndaba not chisang?

So muzi phakathwayo is no more?

It isn't clear... Sdumo Mtshali isn't mentioned in the press release with the returning cast but that could be a red herring to send us off so we can't say for sure. We've updated the article to try to reflect this.

The head writer is Bongi ndaba not chisang?

Well observed qavile - Chisang was head writer for Seasons 1 and 2 so that's why she's on the Show Page - we haven't updated it for Season 3 yet.

We've asked the production about what's what with the head writers and they confirmed that Chisang headed-up the first two seasons and yes, Bongi Ndaba's the head writer for Season 3, along with Sibongile Nkosana for the opening episodes - they co-head wrote the first 30 episodes of the season together.

So Dineo Langa will only be on the new season for two more months.

This from the SABC...

S3 and Clive Morris Productions announce that the character of Mmakoena Molefe, played by TV personality Dineo Langa, will be on air until late September 2022 in the third season of this popular telenovela.

After this, she will exit the show for the remainder of the season.

Dineo Langa is leaving the show to pursue other on-screen interests. While it will be sad to see her leave our Estate family, we wish her all the best with her upcoming projects.

We would like to thank Dineo for the incredible work she did on the first 3 seasons to bring Mmakoena into the hearts and homes of S3 Millennial viewers.

We've asked if Sdumo Mtshali will return but all we've heard is... crickets. Silence.

S3 held a Season 3 launch party last week and he was nowhere to be seen so it's HIGHLY unlikely he'll be back.

South African viewers lose yet again. Enough of all this chopping and changing of actors and writers within a show!

The series managed to achieve a real sense of occasion and anticipation and next thing, BAM, the head writer and two leads are gone.

And the next starring actor to leave is... Clementine Mosimane as Mmatshepo Mokobane - she exits Friday 5 August.

According to Clive Morris Productions and S3, both characters will make cameos in the future.
