Season 3

24 is an American action television series created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran and presented in real time, with each season depicting a 24-hour period in the life of Jack Bauer, who works with the United States government as it fights fictitious terrorist threats to the United States.

Broadcast by Fox in the United States and syndicated worldwide, the show aired from 6 November, 2001 to 24 May, 2010. There are 124 episodes (and a TV movie) in eight seasons.

24 originally premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Thursday 31 January 2002, at 19h00. It was moved to DStv's M-Net Action channel for the 7th season, as well as the preceding television movie 24: Redemption. It later aired on e.tv (first season only) and TopTV's Fox Entertainment channel.

When Fox Entertainment became FOX in 2013 the final season aired on the new channel, which was broadcast simultaneously on TopTV and DStv. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times by channel.

Season 3 premiered on Fox Entertainment on Saturday 30 October 2010, at 23h15. New episodes broadcast daily, seven days a week. There are 24 episodes in the third season.

Season 3

The 3rd season occurs 3 years after the events of Season 2. David Palmer is busy with his Presidential campaign. The main plot of this season revolves around a deadly virus being released in LA. David Palmer is in LA at this time to participate in a debate with his chief opponent in the campaign.

Unlike other seasons, season 3 can be broken down into 3 acts. The first being that CTU must prevent the release of a deadly virus into LA. The terrorists demand that Ramon Salazar be released from prison, or they will release the virus.

Secondly, Jack must intercept the virus before it is sold in Mexico and thirdly the real villain’s identity needs to be revealed. CTU must stop him from spreading the virus strain.

President Palmer faces scandal during his re-election involving his doctor (who is also his girlfriend). Events eventually lead Palmer to withdraw himself from re-election.

Meanwhile, at CTU romantic relationships are strained between Tony Almeida and Michelle Dressler. Kim Bauer is also dating her CTU colleague, Chase Edmunds.

Jack also faces a huge personal challenge as he is recovering from a heroin addiction; something he claims that had been developed as part of an undercover operation.

Impact on future seasons:

Jack is forced to chop off part of Chase’s arm with an axe in order to detach a timed-release device containing the virus that was secured to Chase's wrist.

Tony Almeida turns himself in for his role in helping the terrorist mastermind in order to save Michelle’s life.

David Palmer abandons his re-election campaign.
