Season 1

Gilmore Girls is an American television dramedy series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino which follows single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory Gilmore in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, a close-knit small town with many quirky characters.

It explores family, friendship, generational divides, and social class.

The series premiered in the USA on The WB on October 5, 2000 and ended on May 15, 2007, with its seventh season, which aired on The CW Television Network.

Gilmore Girls airs in South Africa on SABC2, M-Net and M-Net Series.

Synopsis

Set in the fictional town of Stir Hollows, Connecticut, Gilmore Girls is a multigenerational series about friendship, family and the ties that bind.

Thirtysomething Lorelai Gilmore has made her share of mistakes in life, but she's been doing her best to see that her college-age daughter - and best friend in the world - Rory, doesn't follow in her footsteps.

This may be easier said than done though because the two share the same interests, the same intellect, the same coffee addiction and the same eyes.

Rory is more serious than Lorelai, but there are tendencies, especially in the love department, that clearly indicate she is her mother's daughter.

From the beginning of the series, this mother-daughter team has been growing up together. Lorelai was not much younger than Rory when she fell pregnant and made the tough decision to raise her baby alone.

This defiant move, along with Lorelai's fiercely independent nature, caused a rift between her and her extremely proper, patrician, old-money parents, Emily and Richard.

Lorelai was forced to reconcile with them when she found herself in desperate need of money for Rory's education.

A handsome new partner in Richard's business, Jason "Digger" Stiles also sparked a renewed connection between father and daughter despite the rift between Richard and Emily.
