Season 5

Southland is an American television drama series created by Ann Biderman and produced by Warner Bros. Television described as a "raw and authentic look" at Los Angeles and the lives of the LAPD officers who police it.

The series premiered in the USA on NBC on 9 April, 2009. The network ordered two seasons but only aired the first before they cancelled the show. It was bought by TNT and aired there for another four seasons. There are 43 hour-long episodes in five seasons.

Southland premiered in South Africa on M-Net Action on Thursday 13 May 2010, at 19h00. It moved to DStv's M-Net Series channel for the final two seasons and later aired on TopTV's Top One channel and on M-Net Series Zone (Season 5 only). See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 5 originally aired on M-Net Series from 28 March to 30 May, 2013, on Thursdays at 21h30. New episodes broadcast weekly.

Season 5 premiered on M-Net Series Zone on Saturday 19 October 2013, at 20h00. Thereafter new episodes broadcast in a triple bill, weekly. There are 10 episodes in the fifth and final season.

Season 5

From Emmy Award winners John Wells, Ann Biderman and Chris Chulack comes a raw and authentic look at a police unit in Los Angeles.

From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, Southland is a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.

The critically acclaimed series from Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions stars Michael Cudlitz, Shawn Hatosy, Regina King and Ben McKenzie.

Joining the ranks as a series regular this season is former guest star C. Thomas Howell. In addition, Dorian Missick, Emily Bergl and L. Scott Caldwell return as recurring guest stars, and Chad Michael Murray guest-stars in a two-episode arc.

In Southland, Cudlitz plays Officer John Cooper, a recovering addict who, this season, starts to wonder what he has really accomplished after more than 20 years on the force.

Hatosy plays Officer Sammy Bryant, a detective-turned-beat-cop facing a whole new set of problems with his estranged wife.

King plays Detective Lydia Adams, who meets probably the biggest challenge of her life - becoming a mother.

And McKenzie is Officer Ben Sherman, whose growing maturity as a cop brings a darker attitude and increased tension between him and his partner, Sammy.

Now a series regular, four-season veteran Howell plays Officer "Dewey" Dudek, a recovering alcoholic who revels in his unpredictable behaviour and off-colour remarks.

Missick reprises his recurring role from last season as Detective Ruben Robinson, who provides some experienced parental insight for his partner, Lydia.

Bergl returns as Tammi Bryant, who has brought nothing but trouble upon her soon-to-be ex-husband, Sammy. Caldwell returns in her recurring role as Lydia's caring but sometimes intrusive mother.

And Murray appears in a two-episode arc as Dave Mendoza, a likable cop who is a bit of a loose cannon and whose off-duty behaviour may not always be the best influence on Ben.

Southland was created by Emmy-winner Ann Biderman (NYPD Blue, Public Enemies) and is executive-produced by Emmy-winners Christopher Chulack (ER, Third Watch) and John Wells (ER, The West Wing, Shameless).

Chulack is also a primary director of the series, while Jonathan Lisco (The District) serves as executive producer and Andrew Stearn (Shameless, The West Wing) is co-executive producer.

The acclaimed series is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
