Jamie Brewer is an American actress best known for her recurring role as Adelaide in the horror drama television series American Horror Story, in 2011.
She returned to the series in 2013 for American Horror Story: Coven as Nan, a student witch at Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies.
Prior to her break into Hollywood, Brewer grew up loving all forms of the arts, especially movies and theatre productions and she started acting in a theatre group when she was in junior high school and really loved it.
She has been in theatre groups and theatre productions ever since, and received her Musical Theater Certificate studying theatre arts in college while working towards her Bachelor's of Fine Arts with a theatre emphasis.
Brewer was mainstreamed (fully inclusive) in Southern California public school system since kindergarten and attended Vacaville Christian junior high school in Northern California. This is where she took a theatre class (College for Kids) at the local college and performed in Godspell, and then Dr. Doolittle.
She was involved with the theatre department and Drama Club while at L.V. Hightower High school and graduated with her high school class in Texas. After high school she joined a fully inclusive theatre group named Dionysus, and became involved with the local Fort Bend ARC Chapter.
At the age of 18, Brewer became the youngest President of the ARC Fortbend Chapter. She held this office for three years, while doing theatre productions That's What Friends Are For..., Yada, Yada, Yada, That's What I'm Sayin', and Return to Love is a Disability.
When 19, she was appointed to the State of Texas ARC Board. Brewer was 1 of 17 people to represent all individuals with a handicap for the entire state of Texas and served for four years on this board. While being on Texas ARC Board, she was elected to the Executive Board for the State of Texas ARC as Treasurer, and served for three years.
Then while being on both of these boards, Brewer was asked to serve on the Governmental Affairs Committee for the State of Texas where she was the only person with a disability and served for two years, speaking and advocating for the disabled at the Texas State Capitol with the state lawmakers to change the state's wording to "intellectually disabled".
And continually was involved with the theatre group and performed in Hanu-Rama-Kwanza-Mas, and Haiku playing the dramatic lead.
Brewer became a resident troupe member of the inclusive theatre group Dionysus and performed in many original musicals and plays including Violet, and You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Musical) playing Sally.
She also had the honour of being in the touring theatre portion of the group where they performed at schools, churches, and the Houston Children's Museum for the Arts and Accessibility campaign.
Brewer will always continue to be an advocate and role model for people with disabilities in all aspects of her life.
Prior to the Super Bowl, there is a campaign for the food banks and she was lucky enough to get cast for two consecutive years in a Public Service Announcement that aired on NBC, ABC, and CBS for the Souper Bowl of Caring Houston Food Drive.
Her family moved back to Southern California, and it's here where she started attending a local college putting emphasis on theatre arts. Brewer continues to learn as much as she can about acting from all types of mediums.
She found another acting group in the L.A. area, which has classes and productions somewhat similar to Dionysus. Brewer has also attended classes at The Groundlings, and The Ruskin School of Acting, Meisner Technique.
Through the affiliation of the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles, Brewer was fortunate to get an audition for, and eventually booked, American Horror Story playing Adelaide which was a recurring character for Season 1.
She was recognided by the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles by receiving the Down Syndrome of Los Angeles' SunDown Awards 2012 Vision Award for Entertainment and Advocacy.
