About the Show

Bionic Woman is an American science fiction television series created by David Eick as a re-imagining of the original television series The Bionic Woman, created by Kenneth Johnson and based upon the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, and retains its forebear's premise while taking on a more contemporary setting.

The series originally aired in the USA on NBC from 26 September to 28 November, 2007. Eight of the 13 episodes aired before the show went on forced hiatus due to the WGA strike. It was officially cancelled by NBC in April 2008.

The series originally aired in South Africa on DStv's M-Net Action (formerly actionX) channel from 8 February to 28 March, 2008, on Fridays at 20h00.

Bionic Woman premiered on SABC3 on Wednesday 3 December 2008, at 20h31. There are eight hour-long episodes in the series.

Synopsis

Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers didn't think life could get much harder.

But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death's door, Jaime's only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.

With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good - while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make.

Ultimately, it's Jaime's journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman.

Other characters include Jonas Bledsoe, the man who employs Jaime's boyfriend; Ruth Truewell, Jonas' second-in-command; Will Anthros, Jaime's boyfriend, who performs the operation; Jae Kim, the specialised operations leader; Jaime’s younger sister, Becca; and Dr. Anthony Anthros, Will’s father and the man who originated the bionic technology.

Bionic Woman is produced by Universal Media Studios and executive-produced by David Eick (Battlestar Galactica) and Jason Smilovic (Lucky Number Slevin).
