About the Show

Onder Draai die Duiwel Rond is a South African television drama series created and written by Chris Barnard and produced by Sonneblom Films about beautiful people, good wine and respectable neighbours living on the banks of the Hartebeespoort Dam with lives that are seemingly idyllically peaceful and romantic, but which harbour deep secrets just beneath the surface of the facade.

The series is in Afrikaans, with English subtitles.

The series originally aired on SABC2 from 6 August, 1997 to 11 October, 2001. There are 19 hour-long episodes in two seasons. The series repeated a number of times on SABC2 and also aired on SABC3. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

A rebroadcast of Season 2 premiered on SABC2 on Tuesday 11 December 2012, at 19h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 10 episodes in the second and final season.

Synopsis

This series, written by Chris Barnard, is situated in the picturesque little town of Kosmos on the Hartebeespoortdam. Some of the residents work in Pretoria and Johannesburg, but over weekends they spend their time on the dam with boats and skis and fishing rods. They visit each other and have endless parties.

On the surface it is an ordinary circle of friends, enjoying life, but as the series develops, one becomes aware of all the undercurrents, secret agendas, hidden fears, unfulfilled dreams and rare ambitions.

The group becomes more and more entertwined with each other. Some friendships end, others are formed. Some learn to accept failure, others achieve success. Some find love, others not.

But because they are all "people's people", everything touches everyone.

The series boasts a large ensemble cast which includes Marius Weyers, Tobie Cronje, Tess van Staden, Susanne Beyers, Michelle Botes, Grethe Fox, Liezel van der Merwe and David Lee.

The first season was directed by Katinka Heyns and the second by Heyns and Tobie Cronje.
