Aidan Quinn is an Irish-American actor known for his large array of supporting roles, primarily in film, including roles in Desperately Seeking Susan, The Mission, Stakeout, Benny and Joon, Legends of the Fall, Frankenstein and Michael Collins.

He currently stars as Captain Toby Gregson in the crime drama series Elementary, a contemporary reimagining of the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, since 2012.

His first significant film role was in Reckless (1984), followed by a breakthrough role in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) as the character "Dez" (the love interest of the character played by Rosanna Arquette).

Quinn, nominated in 2007 for an Emmy Award for his supporting role in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, started his career on the Chicago stage and has since appeared on Broadway, off-Broadway and in London's West End.

In his hometown of Chicago, he played the title role in a modern-day Hamlet, directed by Robert Falls. He starred on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire and off-Broadway in Sam Shepherd's Fool for Love; Salome, directed by Estelle Parsons; and The Exonerated, which he also performed at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival, in Dublin and in London's West End.

Quinn has starred in numerous feature films, including Desperately Seeking Susan; Benny & Joon; Legends of the Fall; This Is My Father, written and directed by his brother Paul and filmed by his brother Declan; Evelyn alongside Julianna Margulies; The Assignment; At Play in the Fields of the Lord; Looking for Richard; Dark Matter with Meryl Streep; and 32A, directed by his sister Marian.

He garnered an Irish Film Award nomination for Best Actor for his work in Song for a Raggy Boy, and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Male for Cavedweller.

On the small screen, Quinn starred in the groundbreaking AIDS drama An Early Frost, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor.

Other television credits include Perfect Witness with Stockard Channing, Plainsong, Convicted for director Bille August and A Private Matter opposite Sissy Spacek. Quinn recently starred as the title character in the series The Book of Daniel.

Quinn and his family live in upstate New York.
