Nancy Travis is an American actress best known for her starring roles in the feature films Internal Affairs (1990) and So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993); and for her television sitcom roles in Becker (2002-2004) and on the Bill Engvall Show, from 2007-2009.

She currently stars as wisecracking geologist Vanessa Baxter on the television sitcom Last Man Standing, since 2011.

Travis was born in New York and grew up in both Baltimore and Boston. She returned to New York to study drama at New York University and, soon after, joined the national touring company of Neil Simon's hit play, Brighton Beach Memoirs.

Additional theatre credits include Broadway's I'm Not Rappaport and Athol Fugard's My Children, My Africa, which the author directed at the La Jolla Playhouse.

Travis is a founding member of the off-Broadway theatre company Naked Angels.

Travis starred on The Bill Engvall Show for three seasons and was seen in several television movies, including Hallmark Channel's Safe Harbor, NBC's A Walk in My Shoes and Lifetime's original movies Pregnancy Pact and The Party Never Stops: Diary of a Binge Drinker.

She has also guest-starred on an episode of Numb3rs. Other guest starring roles include the shows Spenser: For Hire, Cybill, Medium, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother and Hart of Dixie.

Travis returned to the stage as Theresa Bedell in Boy Gets Girl for director Randall Arney at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, and starred in the classic Three Sisters.

Travis made her feature film debut in the blockbuster comedy Three Men and a Baby, and has added to her film credits with roles in The Jane Austen Book Club, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Internal Affairs, Air America, Three Men and a Little Lady, So I Married an Axe Murderer, The Vanishing, Greedy, Fluke, Destiny Turns on the Radio and Bogie.

On the small screen, she starred in Becker with Ted Danson, Almost Perfect for CBS, and in the television movies My Last Love and Fallen Angels.

Travis resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
