Bio

Khaya Dladla is a South African actor best known for his role as flamboyant beautician GC on the SABC1 soapie Uzalo. It was his first professional television acting role, despite having performed in theatre since the age of nine.

Originally from Umlazi, he matriculated form Brettonwood High School in Durban in 2005 and later studied marketing and media courses at college.

Working primarily in theatre, he has also been a backing vocalist for musicians such as Hugh Masekela, Salif Keita and Thandiswa Mazwai.

Khaya made his television debut in the role a choir member on the SABC1 soapie Uzalo, making his first appearance in the series premiere on 9 February, 2015.

This role was expanded into the character GC, which originally stood for "Gay Character" in the script before being fleshed out by the writers. When the decision was made to expand the character, his back story gave him the name Gamakhulu Cetshwayo, although he is known as GC.

Recurring in the role for three seasons, he was promoted to series regular and given starring billing from Season 4, which started in February 2018.

He was written of the show in 2019's Season 5, for reasons that were undisclosed by Khaya and series producers Stained Glass TV.

He returned to the series in Season 7, first appearing again on Tuesday 6 April 2021.

In 2016 Khaya was the featured guest on an episode of the SABC1 music talk show Zaziwa which aired on 19 May (Season 4, Episode 8). He was also one of the presenters at the SABC1 New Year's Eve bash Come Duze.

In March 2018 he was named as one of the three presenters (with The Naked DJ and Tbose Mokwele) of the BET talk show The Man Council which gives both men and women an opportunity to tap into the mind of men on some of the topical and relevant trends and views on love, relationships and sex. The series premiered on Monday 5 March, 2018.

Also in 2018, Khaya was one of the eight celebrity contestants on the SABC1, advertiser-funded game show Tropika Smoooth Fan, in which uber-fans of celebrities put their skills and celeb-knowledge to the test in the hopes of making it to the finale, for a chance to win R250,000 cash and a car.
