Thuso Mbedu is a South African actress best known for her role as Kitso Medupe on the e.tv soapie Scandal!.

She received performance training at Wits University (2010-2013), graduating with Honours and majoring in Physical Theatre and Performing Arts Management.

She also spent two months at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City, in 2012.

Thuso made her screen acting debut in the major recurring role of Boni Khumalo in the Mzansi Magic drama series Saints and Sinners, in August 2014.

She recurred again the following season and was promoted to starring cast for Season 3, in 2017.

In late 2014 she had a small recurring role in the second season of the Mzansi Magic soapie Isibaya, before landing her higher profile role as journalism student and wild child Kitso on Scandal!.

On Monday, 21 September 2015, she was a guest (with Phila Mazibuko) on an episode of the e.tv talk show Katch It with Khanyi, in which Khanyi Mbau predicted her rise to future stardom.

One month later she had a guest role as Kheti on the second season of the SABC2 teen drama series Snake Park.

Thuso landed her first starring role in television in the Mzansi Magic teen drama series Is'thunzi, which premiered in October 2016.

In the series she played Winnie, a sassy go-getter who dreams of marrying a rich and famous rugby player only to have her dreams dashed when she is exiled to go live with her strict aunt in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal.

In September 2017 she was nominated for an International Emmy award in the category Best Performance by an Actress for her role as Winnie in Is'thunzi and the following year she received a second nomination for the role.

Her next starring role was as Ipeleng in the drama series MTV Shuga, in the show's fifth season (subtitled "Down South"), which premiered on MTV Base on 8 March, 2017.

The character of Ipeleng is an intelligent university scholar who struggles to balance varsity life with the pressures of caring for unruly little brother Lemo, played by Tshiamo Molobi.

Thuso reprised the role in Season 7 of MTV Shuga (also known as MTV Shuga: Down South 2), in 2019.

On Wednesday, 25 July 2018 she debuted on SABC1 soapie Generations: The Legacy, in the role of Okuhle Cele, Sphe (Pearl Monama) and Fana's (Duma Mnqobi) gutsy, social media loving cousin.

A month later she began starring in the SABC1 minisereies Side Dish, which revolves around a group of women who go on holiday and accidentally murder a Ben 10. The show premiered on 9 August, 2018.

In April 2019 Thuso was announced as the lead on the Amazon Prime series The Underground Railroad, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book by Colson Whitehead.
