Bio

Nina Hastie is a South African comedienne, actress and voice artist best known for guest starring on satirical comedy shows, especially Late Nite News and The Bantu Hour.

She has performed at major theatres around the country such as The State Theatre, Wits Theatre and Joburg Theatre. She has headlined comedy festivals such as The Tshwane Comedy Festival, Soweto Comedy Festival, The Wits Comedy Festival and performed at The Nandos Comedy Festival.

Nina has become a regular featured guest on television, on shows like Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, Next of Next Week and 10 over 10; and on radio (Cliff Central, SA FM, Mix FM, Jacaranda FM, Metro FM and more).

She was the youngest radio host in the country at the age of 13 and subsequently spent five years with K-TV and YFM. She has voiced multiple characters for feature-animated films including The Adventures of Dick King and Bushfire Fairtytales.

In 2009, she starred in The Truth About You, a provocative one hander about HIV, at the NSA Festival of Fame. This was the play that became the skeleton script for the SABC1 primetime drama series Intersexions.

She made her film debut in Craig Freimond's Material, an autobiographical film about comedian Riaad Moosa.

Nina played the quirky assistant Nadine in Brendan Jack's comedy miniseries David Leno: Consultant to the Stars, which aired as fillers on Comedy Central.

She was the opening act for the Comedy Central special Comedy Central Presents Joey Rasdien Live @ Parkers, which was taped at Montecasino, Johannesburg on Wednesday 30 January 2013 and aired on Comedy Central on Friday 15 March. The other guest comedians featured in this episode were Trevor Gumbi and Paul Snodgrass.

In November 2015 she was one of the acts at the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, a multi-venue, multi-show comedy showcase featuring local, continental and international talent performing at the Alexander Theatre, Orbit Jazz Café, Thirteen and the Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein, as well as The Market Theatre and Bassline in the Newtown precinct.

Nina was a writer and voice artist on the adult animated comedy series My Child: Teenage Mutant Azanians, which debuted at the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival on 5 December, 2015. The pilot episode of the show - described as "South Park spliced with Animal Farm" - aired a week later on Comedy Central.

In 2015/2016 she was a writer and regular cast member on the SABC2 comedy series The Bantu Hour, a satirical sketch and variety comedy show created by a comedy troupe comprised of stand-up comedians and professional actors, featuring archetypal South African characters.

In early 2016 she guest starred as Gatiep's (Jason Goliath) girlfriend in a Season 3 episode of the SABC1 sitcom Ses'Top La.

In April 2016 she was featured in the documentary The People vs The Rainbow Nation, which went behind the headlines and the news footage to investigate what has driven the post-Apartheid generation to mobilise mass action campaigns #rhodesmustfall and #feesmustfall, asking why South African youth believe the struggle is far from over, more than 20 years after South Africa's first democratic elections. It aired on MTV on Thursday 21 April and on MTV Base on Wednesday 27 April.

Also in April 2016, Nina partnered Celeste Ntuli and battled against fellow comedians Jason Goliath and Tol A$$ Mo in the third episode of the MTV reality series Lip Sync Battle Africa.

In June 2016 she appeared in the first episode of Comedy Central Roast Battle. Hosted by John Vlismas, the show is a comedy format in which comics battle to the death in a series of quick-fire comedic combats.

Beginning in July 2016 she was one of the four personalities headlining SABC3's daily talk show Trending SA, in which the panel discuss trending hashtags of the day, sparking conversation with guests who are brought in to delve deeper into issues that are currently active on social media.
