In the late 1980s, Ibiza's reputation as a party island began attracting hedonistic young revellers in their droves. Britain's illegal rave scene exploded, driven by the new drug, ecstasy.
As ecstasy took over the clubbing scene on Ibiza and authorities responded by clamping down on the drug, more pioneering traffickers decided to turn their attention to cocaine.
Giving it the Absolute Big 'Un
By the early 2000s, Ibiza's hedonistic club scene was hosting some of the biggest parties in the world. The drug groups came, saw and conquered the island.
Cocaine was king, but greed and infighting led to bloodshed, leaving behind a dramatically transformed Ibiza.
