A Cut Above

Channel: HISTORY (DStv 186)
TX Time: 19h25
Genre: Reality Competition

A Cut Above

A competition like no other, A Cut Above puts 12 of the best chainsaw carvers from across the world to the ultimate test of creativity, strength and skills, as they turn ordinary logs into extraordinary works of art.

Each episode, the carvers compete in weekly Quick and Master Carve challenges, while racing against the clock, in hopes of avoiding elimination.

In the Quick Carve the carvers have just two hours to best the competition in a series of challenges set to test their speed, accuracy and their performance under pressure.

The winner of the Quick Carve gets a competitive advantage going into the Master Carve.

In the Master Carve, they have seven hours to complete an epic carve based on the given theme, pushing their creativity and carving skills, all hoping to avoid elimination.

In the Carving Circle, sculptor Katharine Dowson and chainsaw carver Ryan Cook decide who out-carved the rest and send one person home.

In the season finale, the final three face off for $50K, the logs are bigger, the challenge is longer, and the judges' expectations are nothing short of perfection.

As the carvers fire up their chainsaws one last time, who will be named a cut above the rest?

In the series premiere: 12 of the world's top chainsaw carvers travel to a remote forest to compete in the ultimate carving competition.

Engineering Reborn

Channel: BBC Earth (DStv 184)
TX Time: 19h00
Genre: Technology, Science, Documentary Series

Engineering Reborn

An ambitious access-led series that reveals how engineering icons of the past are transformed into inspirational beacons of the future.

Construction is a dirty business, with new builds creating masses of new carbon dioxide emissions a year.

Architects and engineers are responding to this challenge by reusing, reimagining and rehabilitating buildings on an epic scale.

This series takes us inside incredible engineering marvels across the world.

Featuring a German blimp hangar transformed into the world's largest water park, New York's high line railroad is now a 2km long elevated public park and a Korean military bunker spectacularly reimagined into a cultural centre.

In the series premiere: Bankside dominated the southern shore of the River Thames.

After closing and falling into disrepair it was it was threatened with demolition for years, until Britain's National Gallery - The Tate - stepped in.

In the 1960s TWA decided to build a new terminal at JFK as a statement of the jet age - designed with a giant concrete swooping roof like a bird's wing in flight.

But within just a few years it was unable to cope with the number of passengers streaming through into New York, and was closed and fell dormant.

Constructed in a former Soviet airship hangar, Tropical Islands Resort is a tropical theme park housed in the world's biggest free-standing hall.

With a maximum daily capacity of 8,200, it's the largest indoor waterpark in the world.

But installing enough sand to create a vast indoor beach, as well as an entire indoor tropical rainforest, had its challenges.

The Great British Bake Off 13

This is the ultimate baking battle, where passionate amateurs compete to be crowned Britain's best.

In every episode, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith set new challenges to test a different baking skill, each becoming more difficult as the competition unfolds.

The Signature, Technical and Showstopper bakes push the competitors to the limits of their baking ability.

Each week only one can claim Star Baker, while another must leave the Bake Off tent.

In the Season 13 premiere, "Cake Week": The brand new batch of bakers tackle mini cakes, a striking sponge and a scaled-down version of a home close to their hearts.
