The Porter

Channel: Me (DStv 115)
TX Time: 22h00
Genre: Drama, Period Drama

The Porter

Set in the early 1920s, The Porter depicts the struggles and perseverance of railway porters and their families in the Black community of St. Antoine, Montreal, as they fight for their civil rights and unite to form the first Black union.

The series follows the journeys of characters who hustle, dream, cross borders and pursue their ambitions in the fight for liberation - on and off the railways that cross North America.

It is a story of empowerment that highlights the moment when railway workers from both Canada and the United States join together to give birth to the world's first Black union.

Set primarily in Montreal, Chicago and Detroit as the world rebuilds after the First World War, The Porter depicts the Black community in St. Antoine, Montreal - known, at the time, as the "Harlem of the North".

They're young, gifted and Black, from Canada, the Caribbean, and the US via the Underground Railroad and through the Great Migration, and they find themselves thrown together north and south of the colour line, in an era that boasts anything is possible.

But if change isn't coming for them, they will come for it.

By any means necessary.

In the series premiere: In 1921, friends and train porters Junior and Zeke find their unbreakable bond stretched to its limits when tragedy inspires them to take conflicting paths to a better life.

Britain's Secret Islands

Channel: HISTORY (DStv 186)
TX Time: 20h15
Genre: Documentary Series, Wildlife, Nature, Travel

Britain's Secret Islands

A journey to some of Britain's least known islands, exploring the wildlife of these regions, meeting the people that live there, and exploring the history and culture of these areas.

In this four-part series, we will explore the UK's greatest archaeological sites and historic wonders, from
5,000 year old standing-stone circles to the ruins of castles and traditional dwellings that ancient Britons
occupied for generations.

We will join a Viking fire festival in the Shetland Islands, follow the footsteps of Norse invaders in the Farne Islands and recreate the journeys of ancient seafarers across the Hebrides.

We'll also make new history on the 50th anniversary of Operati on Tophat by landing a drone on the most remote British Isle of all: Rockall.

The premiere episode takes us on a journey to the Farne Islands, home to immense numbers of seabirds and seals, the first attack by Viking raiders, and early Christian communities.
