Anele Mdoda quits Real Talk with... um...?

So that's it folks. There is no more "with Anele" on Real Talk.

Anele Mdoda has resigned from the show and will only be on air until next week Friday (8 June 2018).

When someone else takes over because the show will go on.

According to SABC3 and the series producers Cheeky Media, the current season will continue until October 2018 and a new host will replace Anele.

There's no word on who this will be but the first person who springs to mind is DJ Azania Mosaka, who got comfy in Anele's seat while Anele went on break recently.

Anele clearly enjoyed the vacay so much she didn't want to return because a couple of weeks later and it's "Ciao!".

According to Anele, she's leaving because she feels staying won't contribute to her growth going forward. This is what she has to say about her decision:

Anele: "Real Talk with Anele has, since the beginning of season one, been exceptionally close to my heart and I have been enormously proud to work with SABC 3. I feel, for my own growth, it is time to leave the show and to focus on my career ambitions and prospects. I would like to thank SABC3, the viewers and everyone behind the show for the opportunity they afforded me through the show. Hopefully this is not the end but see you later.”

Interesting to note is that the show has disappeared from SABC3's Top 20 shows in the TV ratings since it moved to 18h00 on 5 February this year.

It enjoyed a healthy and consistent presence in the Top 20 when it aired at 17h00 but hasn't managed to achieve this once since its move to 18h00.

The show has also interviewed some celebrity guests twice, which suggests it's running out of personalities to feature.

With Anele gone, it could be sinking ship that goes under come October.

Unless a new host and fresh topics can save it.

Do you think it has a future? Who should get the "with"?

While they're at it they must get a new content producer. The show is too celebrity centred and doesnt have that warmth to tackle raw issues

Will wait for the tabloids this weekend to reveal the real reason she's leaving.

But there has to be more to this: "I am resigning to focus on my career" statement from Anele. Why would she want to leave the show in the middle of a season if she's happy? Is it contractual issue? Or remuneration issues, perhaps? I simply think that there's more to this story. Maybe its just me loving drama. But i believe, that generally people resign from their jobs either to save their reputation, or to getaway from unbearable working conditions. It's a pity we can't ask Phil to find out the real reasons why Anele is leaving Real Talk, because if he isn't getting dinned by the shows' executive producers, he is getting showered with gifts and cheap wine to write puff pieced about the show.

In fact, what am I even saying? The producers of Real Talk have captured him by offering him a slot in Real Talk. He knows that he has to eat and he can't really ask them (the executive producer's) these tough questions. I guess, the irony can't seem to escape him, now does it? The level of hypocrisy. I mean, Phil is a commentator on these injustices in the entertainment industry, a crusader to be precise, poses himself as an advocate against these injustices. But then again, as the saying goes: "Never argue with a man who buys ink by the barrel, and paper by ton." In this case, Yusuf and Janez are the ones who bought the ink by the barrel. Phil wouldn't dare question their authority, he knows which side his bread is buttered. Don't television producer's train their victims so well? His job there in Real Talk is to present this nostalgic, surrealist, lovey-dovey feeling to the world about the show. Who needs a PR company when they could ever do is to pay Phill?  Pretty much what he doing now covering Top Billing events, and being invited to eat dinner with the producers. Now he has nothing bad to say about Top Billing. He would loose that slot in Real Talk, should he ever dare question their authority. His pseudo-commenterary is noted, by the way. Anyway...

Remember when a certain Producer (i won't say who I'm talking about), of Real Talk With Anele's contract was not renewed after two seasons? The show's Executive Producers, Yusuf Stevens and Janez Vermuluen told the producers of that show that if they wanted their full remuneration, they won't be guarantee getting employed on next seasons. Having being slaved and grinding in producing over 14 pre-recorded episodes per week, they were told that their full salaries went to maintaining company cars and paying for their huge one million rand electricity bill. I mean...? Imagine after you went all out to do your job and managed to deliver beyond expectations, and then producers say to you they can't pay you your full salary. Jeepers. And whenever the staffers/crew were asking about money issues, producers would emotionally blackmail them by reminding them that  the show, Real Talk With Anele, has provided them with an "opportunity of a life time". Where am I going with this? Well, I hope these weren't one of the issues that led Anele to abruptly leave the show.

Either way, whoever is about to replace Anele has a huge gap to fill. I believe, Anele owned that space. I loved how she emotionally enganged with each and every guest, and not being a typical talk show host by asking lukewarm, typical questions. It takes talent and skill to get to that level. In every encounter, there's always a goodbye. Farewell, Anele. Farewell.
