SABC3 to go 80% local

SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been telling any who'll listen that it's going to happen and today (31 May) he confirmed that it is.

The international content on the SABC TV channels is going to be reduced in favour of local content, specifically on SABC3.

The news came out of an SABC event which was held to award contracts to production companies in the South African TV industry.  Speaking to Fin24, Hlaudi confirmed the news and stated that the broadcaster would increase SABC3's local content to 80% from 1 July.

This development comes in the wake of the announcement of SABC's 90% local music quota which was implemented across SABC radio stations earlier this month.

No-one's breathed a word about which SABC3 properties will be affected. We'll keep you posted.

With Bold and days making so much money for sabc and them being the most watched on 3 ,I hope Hlaudi won't be that stupid to cancel them .they need the revenue brought by those shows

As long as the local content is of good quality, I'd be happy.

I'm actually worried that their local content won't be of good quality and will probably have a low entertainment value. They just mustn't mess with my Days and Bold!

Big up 2 the CEO. I'm disappointed on 90% local music bcoz dey play only 1 song 4rm a particular album de whole week eg Ngud by Kwesta, it shouldn't be bout singles now
