The second annual Royalty Soapie Awards took place at the ICC in Durban on Saturday night (28 March) and were once again headlined by Mzansi Magic's isiBaya which dominated
last year's ceremony too.
The soapie won a total of seven categories this year with wins for set design, wardrobe, lighting, writing, directing and editing - it won all of the creative and technical categories. It also took the Outstanding Soapie award, a category voted for by the judges.
Another notable winner was kykNET's
recently cancelled Villa Rosa which won three of the categories voted for by viewers: Most Popular Soapie of the Year, Outstanding Female Villain and Outstanding Male Villain.
Most royally snubbed: 7de Laan. It received the highest number of nominations - 14 - but didn't win one despite the fact that it's creator Danie Odendaal received the Lifetime Achievement award.
The ceremony should be airing on Mzansi Magic at some point in the future but no date has been confirmed. It aired on SABC1 last year so we assume the channel decided to pull the plug and run as a result of isiBaya's dominance last year and the fact that Generations didn't enter this year. We'll keep you posted on the broadcast date until-and-as-such.
