Say 'I' if you are tired of BB & don't have DStv

Ok am I the only person on TVSA who really does not care much for Big brother? Who thinks that the show is played out, lame and tedious. For those who seem to love it to bits what do you guys see in the show that I don't see? Is it the nudity? Is it the banality of watching people being bored the whole day with nothing better to do? Or is it the joys of watching people getting sloshed and "acting the fool" ?like Mr.T I really do pity the fool, maybe thats why I am not a fan mmmh.

For me, seeing people getting naked and bathing is not really sexy, anyway for me. I find dead pan nudity unappealing.Espicially if its is us poor mortals who don't work hours in the gym. It's just looks plain and sometimes odd. So the shower hour holds no appeal whatsoever for me.Maybe if I was a randy teenager who has never seen a naked woman or a vagina .Maybe the curiosity factor will be ratched up a bit but other than that,I don't see the fuss about shower hour. Maybe if there was like baby oil wrestling and the girls would wear skimpy tight outfits that get nice and wet when they tussle.Maybe I could switch into shower hour for that. Plus if they take baths together and the rub oils and on each other( this is strictly ladies only) and they give each others "sensual massages" while taking their baths and help each other to put on their kangas. just maybe I may tune into the shower hour but a month of baby oil wrestling and naked bodies will probably get tired very soon.mmmh

As for sitting and watching people waiting for something to happen, thats just too plain B-O-R-I-N-G . The reason I love reality shows such as the Amazing Race or Survivour is the fact that theres some form of pressure on the contestants. Espicially on the Amazing Race, theres something happening which pushes the guys to act. You only get to see a small amount of the down time in between the action. In BB its 80% downtime and 20 % action. That equation can't work in any relationship then why should it work on a tv show. Just laying around and waiting for Biggie to give you challenges is not what I call compelling viewing.Or waiting for some illicit romance to happen, that is just too mills and boon for me. Didn't people have enough of that in high school? The "voyerism" aspect ,as we all know its a sham. Cause everyone, from the viewers to the contestants are aware of the cameras and are mostly playing for them. I always feel sorry for those people who at two am ,are up and are busy sending sms to the show.Im like don't you have to work the following day!? Is the highlight of ones day sending sms to a show talking about people who are sleeping when you should be sleeping yourself.Or running commentary about people who can't even read or see your comments.

As for the alcohol adding some very needed fuel to the fun factor,I think its a pity that people need to get sloshed so that the ratings can go up. The show is almost a 24 hour circus , with freaks on display that resemble us. The freaks can only truely come out when their tipsy,I wonder what does that say about our sense of self and the contestants. Millions sitting infront of the idiot box hoping for someone to do something stupid or get intangle in some sordid affair? It's just too Daily Sun for me; "oh how can he do that, he is such a slut" let me watch some more. "he should know better he is married'  but then we continue to stay glued heaping our criticism but still glued. Please its not bad enough that we do the same thing with the ANC and goverment but now we have to do the same thing with or entertainemt eish eish eish.I think sadism rhymes with South Africaness.

Anyhow, I like many fellow "blockers" am human, yes its true I am, and I've probably missed the point of the show. The proud followers of the show can enlighten me about whats so great about BB.Maybe they can give me a path way to BB nirvarna ,so that I too can be a BB zen master. So maybe I too I will be able to stay up until 2am watching tv on a school night and wake up by 7am to see other people take a bath. Still go to work and make it in time to recharge onmore BB. My narrowmind sometimes misses stuff,so please do enlighten me on what am I missing. As for me, right here and right now, I feel that BB is just a waste of time and sad sign of how banal modern living is, that one can dedicate most of their time (i.e life) at watching other people "having fun" instead of going out and creating your own. But I'm hoping the big fans will show me the light, till then i'll sit in the bliss of my ignorence in the dark singing the song of ignorance ao lethu mshini wam mshini wam

tha-bang...I unfortunately am an addict... Have watched 4 biggies and am not seeming tostop anytime soon... the social experiment for me is what makes me watch...

Segololo
26 Aug 2008 02:49

AS I said on another blog.... BIGGIE to me is a Social experiment to see how people from different backgrounds, lifestyles, experiences, attitudes, beliefs, cultures sign away their privacy for over 3 months to allow people to watch themlive as "normal"as possible... AND the BIG BROTHER is watching them everywhere 24/7... THE hoo ha is really centered on how people behave when they don't know (WELL, these ones know) people are watching...For Example Mooncho would pee in the sink... Remember Rene's traumatising article last week?

lol
my pc and internet is acting up,so sorry tashi no pics.
Sego  the whole social experiment idea is a farce and we both know it. the whoole thing is a construction ,from the type of personalities that are chosen to the cameras being left righ and centre and everyone knowing that they are being.
the fact that the camera is there actuallychanges how people would behave.

myname
like beyonce said BB is on DSTV and it has its own channel. its like survivour in a house where one person get eliminated every week. As for LSM = Living Standard Measure. It is used in advertising (and to some extet in tv) to group people according to what they have which then also has impact (supposedly has an impact ) on who they are and the type of things they are into.
the LSM starts from 1 up to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest.
So a person with an LSM of 10 probably owns an expensive car, lives in the surburbs, goes to holidays overseas blah blah blah . The guys in between 5 and 8 are probably middle class have a tv, microwave , cellphones but are not truely wealthy. While the LSM 1 guys are working class to poor group, the ones who probably dont even own a tv , or a house etc.
its just classism disguised as market analysis. You can google it for more and proper info.
as for BB im still not sold

tha-bang making a lot of sense there as usual.
I'm in a different place to you in that
1) You have a choice to watch but you choose not to, I on the other hand can't (no DSTV)
2) I am addicted to / fascinated by what bloggers have to say about the show more than the show itself. Whenever I visited my sister and watched BBA2 I always though it is not for me. If I had DSTV I'd just watch highlights cause I'd hate missing out completely which is why I also read every BBA3 blog, I get all the highlights through the other bloggers' eyes of course.

26 Aug 2008 03:33

<<Sego the whole social experiment idea is a farce>> maybe... but I still get to see peeps doing stuff that to me seems like an experiment

<< and we both know it. the whoole thing is a construction ,from the type of personalities that are chosen >> 2 of my colleagues went for the interviews and had to take 2 days off work.aparently the interviews are gruesome and involve such extensive tasks that is pulls you out of your comfort and you forget that you are being interviwed for big brother. so maybe on the looks side, but the personalities I doubt

<<to the cameras being left righ and centre and everyone knowing that they are being.
the fact that the camera is there actuallychanges how people would behave. >>
not for long! the first 2 weeks YES, they all act up for the cams but after the 3rd week especially after eviction, they begin to show their true personalities... the acting stops and they start to believe that it is their reality... You can't act forever, anyway!

Tha-bang - my man you just nipped it in the butt.  Mainly coz i am GREEN WITH ENVY coz other bloggers get to watch and I dont - NO DSTV - and to think I am LSM 6!  But I am getting my ducks in row - God wil bless me with DSTV!  Ha,ha!!!!!!!!

I also prefer Survivor or Amazing Race or Ameraca's Next Top Model - give me action!

BTW Tha-bang - a very BELATED congrats on your engagement! Truly happy for you - there should be more men like you out there for sisters like us who still believe in romance.  Nice one my brother...

I really dont' know why I like BBA. I'm not excited by shower hour because seeing people naked with funny bodies or a nice body for that matter is not exctiting REALLY. I love seeing the people around the house and how people think when in that kind of environment. You cant act for three whole months 24/7. Your REAL character will surface.

A clear example of that is Bertha from BBA 2. She came in there locked in her bible, preaching about her flesh being weak, asking God to help her. That didn't last long. She started drinking heavily, being nasty to people and taking her "friends" man immediately when Meryl left the house. She was such a fake.

The current contestants are still careful, but it won't last long they will break and show theri true colours.

Amen to that.

For me Thabs, the reason I watch is to see different personalities in how they relate to each other when they converse. I guess what I’m trying to say is to see which of the contestant identify with my personalities.

Let me give you an example: With BBA2 that group of Richard was not my cup of tea. Reason being that they could not have a decent conversation that was of interest to me unless you are sort of a gayish person.

The Max group they could have a good conversation and their only down fall was their attitude. In their case it made them evil to the other contestant and the voting public but they were entertaining tor me.

As for kissing, sex and love talk, I will leave that to the 20 something. It is not for me thank you very much.

26 Aug 2008 05:32

<<but i still don't buy into it LSM sego, what about u?>> I don't buy it AT ALL... I think most of it is based on superficial things, anyways... just because I have a TV and microwave and a good education doesn't make me more important, cleverer or more keen to get the verimark product. It will depend mostly on personality, beliefs and upbringing... Some people are just gullible and live their lives recklessly with the best education, opportunities and everything else on their footsteps...I hope I am making sense.

I think BBA is like National Geographic for humans - only they cant monitor humans in their own natural habitats so they have to capture them in some confined space.  Its a sick twisted way of studying our species.  We are running out of creative options so we resort to this - Human torture on all levels.  We have already exhasuted or  explored the possibilities of Aliens & UFO's, we have revolutionized the world by creating Microsoft.  It doesnt get any bigger or more creative than that.  So this is what we do now - REALITY TV - and most of the shows suck and they are demeaning and pointless.  BBA sadly falls under that tent now.  But whatever - we will get over it  - DSTV or NOT....

I don't know what Segololo's views are on the BBA 3 contestants. They are really a flop trying to emulate the BBA2 contestants. Imagine Ricco trying to be like Richard and Latoya like Tatiana. Latoya was already jumping into Ricco's bed in less than 12 hours of being in the house, trying to create a Richiana scene.

Segololo, I have watched this 12 contestants and after 2 days, I can't see anthing original about any of them yet. All I have seen are 12 contestants that watched BBA2 and trying to copy one character or the other.
