New on e.TV in January, 2008:

2 January at 8pm

Courting Alex
Premiere date: 2 January, 2008 at 20h00

Courting Alex stars Jenna Elfman ('Dharma & Greg') in a comedy about Alex, (Elfman), an attractive, single, attorney, who has everything life has to offer ... except a life.

Alex works alongside her father, Bill (Dabney Coleman, 'The Gaurdian'), at his law firm, and while he is very proud of her, it pains him that his daughter is not married yet. If Bill had his way, Alex would settle down with her colleague, Stephen (Josh Stamberg, 'A lot Like Love'), a star lawyer at their firm who is obviously smitten with Alex.

Julian (Hugh Bonneville, 'Doctor Zhivago'), Alex's charming British neighbour, who makes his living as an artist, and Molly (Jillian Bach 'Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place'), her loyal and brutally honest assistant, are the two people she chooses to lean on for advice.

However, no amount of advice could prepare her for the unexpected feelings she's having for Scott (Josh Randall 'Ed'), an impulsive, renaissance man, who she recently met while trying to negotiate a deal involving his tavern. If Alex can put down her cell phone for long enough, her successes in love just might catch up to her successful career.

The Wire 2
Premiere date: 7 January, 2008 at 21h00

thewire

The Wire returns to e.TV for it's second season. Focusing on the workings of law enforcement amid the attrition of a city plagued by rampant crime, The Wire also captures the routine world of the criminal underground.

Along with its ongoing examination of drug problems and their effect on the urban poor, this second season also examines the plight of the blue-collar urban working class.

A major focus of the season is the city port and it's longshoremen who get caught up in smuggling drugs and other contraband by using the containers at the port.

In a season-long subplot, the Barksdale organisation continues its drug trafficking despite Avon's imprisonment, with Stringer Bell assuming greater power.

McNulty's in the marine unit and harbours a vendetta against his former commanders for reassigning him to it. The season begins with the discovery of the bodies of 14 young unidentified women at the port and McNulty makes a point of proving that they were murdered in his commanders' jurisdiction so he can be involved in the investigation.

Meanwhile, police Major Stan Valchek gets into a feud with stevedore union leader Frank Sobotka over competing donations to their old neighbourhood church. Valchek demands a detail to investigate Sobotka.

Daniels, having impressed the Major with his work on the Barksdale case, is assigned to lead the detail.

As with the previous season, the targets of the investigations are explored and fully realised as characters.

The King of Queens 9
Premiere date: 13 January, 2008 at 19h30

King_of_queens

The King Of Queens returns for it's ninth season. The show centres around Doug and Carrie Heffernan, a loving blue-collar couple from Queens, N.Y., who share their humble home with her eccentric father, Arthur.

After a long day's work as a parcel deliveryman, Doug retreats to his home for some peace and quiet, which is often interrupted by Carrie's father, for whom they have hired a dog-walker, Holly, to take him on walks.

Doug's only refuge is the little time he spends alone with Carrie and the company of his buddy Spence, and his brother, Danny, whom he turns to for advice that just might make his life better, if he only bothered to follow it.
