There’s a new face in Hillside, a powerful, shrewd businesswoman named Robyn De Swart. Will she be making life a living hell for George at KDL or is her bark worse than her bite?

Summary for last week:

Monday 02 October

When Marko brings up the subject of Stefan’s trial at breakfast, there’s a tense silence in the air. Felicity tries to talk some sense into Vanessa asking her to forgive Stefan and to allow her mother to help him without her standing in her mother’s way.

Oubaas is worried about Neef Gert but Hilda and Maria don’t want him to even mention Gert’s name. Moekie phones and a terrified Oubaas tries his best to lie about not knowing Gert’s whereabouts.

Marko and Mandla agonize about getting the cash to invest in Tokkie’s deal and San Mari advises them to form a closed corporation and to approach the bank for funding. It dawns on Marko that he’ll be going to Cape Town for two weeks leaving him with no choice but to back out of the deal.

Dezi lets Karien know that she would love to become George’s partner and Karien is very excited, encouraging her to do it. She tells Karien not to say anything until she’s spoken to her dad and Jan Hendrik.

Tannie Rademan is having a meet-and-greet session for the residents of Hillside at the Deli and things are going very well as everyone laps up everything she’s saying.

Matrone bullies Paula into interviewing her, anything to get into the newspapers when Zinzi saves Paula by telling them about Tannie Rademan’s session in the Deli. Matrone immediately makes her way over to spy on the Tannie.

Nellie bumps into Tokkie at T&T and the two discuss the latest deal to buy land in Imnyama Bay. Nellie basically interrogates Tokkie with all his questions regarding the deal and Tokkie gets angry.

Matrone interrupts Tannie Rademan’s session by embarrassing her with a comical story making everyone laugh at the Tannie’s expense and Matrone quickly takes over by telling everyone what an inspiration the Tannie was to her. It’s all part of her plan to get into the newspapers as she poses and smiles for the camera.

Xander tells Stefan the seriousness of his situation and Vanessa overhears Stefan saying he does not want to cause further distress for the Beukes family. Stefan walks out and sees Vanessa but she just stares at him.

Dezi tells JH about wanting to invest in KDL, thereby becoming George’s partner. At first JH is skeptical but eventually comes around as Dezi convinces him that she would like really like to do this. He says they should sleep on it.

Altus finds George still at work and George tells him that he has a meeting with a potential buyer, he can’t wait to get Wilmien off his case so he’s willing to give this buyer a chance.

Tokkie and Inge are really living the high life now, eating out at expensive restaurants and planning their overseas trip. I really hope it lasts for Inge’s sake. Tokkie tells Inge about his run in with Nellie and he’s clearly upset that people are still not willing to trust him. Perhaps it’s because of your past track record, one good deal and you expect everyone to forget your twenty odd years of shady deals?

Inge responds by saying she will always believe in him. Inge is a grown up woman but she comes across as being very naïve, she’s acting like a teenager lately.

Vanessa senses her mother is not happy and tells her if she really wants to testify at the trial, to go ahead and not consider her since she’s not ready to forgive Stefan yet and that her mother needs to do this for herself. Charmaine can’t thank Vanessa enough and tells her she’ll think about it. What’s there to think about?

Tuesday 03 October

Dezi tells George about her interest in becoming his partner and George is surprised but pleased. He tells her of his meeting with a potential buyer and will first see what is being offered, although he assures Dezi that he’ll prefer having her as a partner.

Paula is going all out to ensure Matrone’s victory, she has booked Matrone a mani, pedi and a facial and she also gives her tips on posing for pictures. Mandla rushes in with the programme for the announcement that night and he’s concerned about Tannie Rademan’s long list of good deeds. Paula immediately smells a rat and she and Mandla decide to join forces to expose the Tannie.

Oubaas is blowing Matrone’s trumpet to Tannie Rademan when Zinzi rushes into the Deli and tells Vanessa of PaulMan’s plans to expose the Tannie. She tries to cover when she sees Tannie Rademan sitting at the table.

Charmaine approaches Xander and tells him she’s prepared to testify as Stefan’s witness and even though she does not approve of what he did, she wants to ensure he gets a fair trial.

George tells Altie that he cannot get any information about the prospective buyer but “he” definitely sounds like a hotshot as “he” does not want any speculations to be made in the press until they’ve reached an agreement.

The whole of Hillside is rallying around Matrone giving their support for the big DD announcement, Hillside’s honour is at stake you know.

Mandla and Paula come storming in at Matrone’s place telling her they’ve uncovered the dirt on the Tannie, all her charitable efforts was a huge flop and the residents are still angry with her. Matrone does not see how the information will help her win but Paula says she has a plan to make the truth come out.

Poor Tannie Rademan, she does not stand a chance against the folk of Hillside.

The day that we’ve been wishing for has finally arrived. It’s the evening of the Dazzling Dame announcement and everyone is dressed up to the nines.

Matrone enters looking quite elegant and stylish and Tannie Rademan goes over to her and they exchange polite compliments on their outfits. Matrone is worried that Paula is not there yet and Nellie is at the podium ready to announce the winner.

Meanwhile Mandla and Paula are at the girls’ flat drinking champagne while Tessa, Kabelo and San Mari are writing on placards. Danny phones to tell them to hurry, Tannie Rademan is about to speak.

Nellie announces Tannie Rademan and she goes up to make her speech just as Mandla and Paula take their seats.

Kabelo, Tessa and San Mari hold up placards so the Tannie can see and the placards state the Tannie’s project flops. Tannie Rademan is so shocked and rattled that she starts faltering in her speech and ends it abruptly, not leaving a good impression at all.

Finally Nellie announces Matrone and just as Danny is ready organise the powerpoint presentation, Matrone stops her and tells her that she’ll be speaking form the heart.

She goes up and starts speaking and for the first time since this competition began, Matrone is genuinely sincere as everyone listens attentively.

George and Altie are busy preparing the documents George needs when he meets with the buyer when suddenly a woman steps in and it turns out to be the potential buyer, Robyn De Swartd.

Mandla and Danny praise Matrone for giving a great speech but she does not want to get ahead of herself just yet. Finally Nellie announces the Dazzling Dame winner and it’s none other than Matrone Netta Nortje, she sheds a tear of joy.

Wednesday 04 October

George tells Karien that Robyn De Swardt took him completely by surprise, he’s not sure he likes the woman since it seems she’s toying with him, making him feel like a schoolkid. Karien persuades him to give Dezi a chance since she’ll make the perfect partner and George agrees saying Dezi is a much better option.

Vince and Mandla have a meeting with Tokkie and he tells them that he made the seller an offer he can’t resist. He tells Vince about Nellie giving him the third degree and Vince is upset.

Matrone is on cloud nine as she sways into Oppiekoffie, dishing out single roses to everybody that supported her. She invites them all to a celebratory party at her place.

Stefan approaches Vanessa to thank her personally for not standing in her mother’s way. The two start talking about what Vanessa is going through and Stefan is supportive and understanding and tells her it will get easier with time.

Vince and Nellie are at loggerheads about the Imnyama Bay deal and Vince is stubborn when his father advises him to let Xander have a look at the documents. Vince feels insulted that his father is treating him like a child and swears that he will make it on his own.

Kids, they always come back with their tail between their legs and I’m sure that is what will happen with Vince.

Robyn phones George to request figures for the DD Competition and she’s very demanding prompting George to phone Dezi to ask if she’s still interested in Wilmien’s shares.

Dezi asks JH if they are able to buy half of the shares and he tells her they can do it without involving her father. Dezi is ecstatic that she’ll be a partner in two companies. Hold your horses Dezi, nothing’s been signed yet.

Nellie is fuming about Vince’s refusal to listen to him and cries on Charmaine’s shoulder. He has a gut instinct that things are not as they seem with Tokkie.

Robyn goes over to KDL looking for the figures when George tells her that the shares are no longer for sale. She tells him she read the contract (which he didn’t seem to) and it states that the decision depends on Wilmien’s lawyers to accept a better offer and she smugly tells him that he won’t be able to better her offer.

Mandla and Paula argue over who will be attending the Presidential Banquet with Matrone. When Matrone makes a speech at her party and starts stumbling over her words, we see Tannie Rademan standing at the door placard in hand.

Tannie Rademan’s placards read “Dictator” referring to Matrone and the other one reads “I am watching you” causing Matrone to get very nervous.

Thursday 05 October

George is early at the Terreblanche house to inform Dezi and JH of developments with Robyn De Swardt and what she said about the contract. JH goes over the contract and confirms what Robyn said.

Mandla does the sums in the Deli and tells Vince that with the small amount they’re putting into the deal, they only get 0,5 percent share of the land. When Nellie walks in, Vince shows him the documents to prove the deal is legit.

Paula is preparing a profile on Matrone and is going all out to ensure that she will be attending the banquet, not Mandla. She’s not happy with the current bend-and-stretch pictures and Aggie points out the rubbish in the background. Upon hearing this, Matrone says they will just have to redo everything from scratch.

When George phones Wilmien’s lawyers, he’s told that Robyn has not made up her mind yet. This further frustrates him and his staff question whether their jobs are safe. He assures them that everything will be fine as long as he is still there.

Somehow I doubt that very much Georgie boy, but we’ll see.

Madel is back from Waenhuiskrans and is ready to start working again. It looks like the sea air did her a lot of good as she has a spring in her step again and is looking remarkably well after the drama with Renate.

Nellie phones a contact of his at one of the East London newspapers and asks him to snoop around and find out information about Mr Vermaak, the owner of the land at Imnyama Bay.

He tries contacting Mr Vermaak’s offices but the receptionist tells him the man is not available. Clearly something is not right here as we see the receptionist with a worried look on her face.

Xander prepares Charmaine for the worst telling her that the Prosecutor will look for ways to discredit her as a reliable witness by perhaps hinting that Stefan bribed her to say things to make him look good. Charmaine is horrified that things will come to that.

Madel and Dezi discuss the recent events leading up to Nicky’s death and Madel tells her about her true feelings for Nicky all the years. Dezi can obviously relate as she nods her head thinking of Theuns once again. I wonder if he’ll ever come back into the picture.

Karien tries to take George’s mind off Robyn and to be positive about the future of KDL. A knock comes at the door and lo and behold, it’s Robyn. She’s there to celebrate her new partnership and George is stunned as he was obviously not informed by the lawyer. I bet she told them not to inform him.

In a slightly threatening voice, Robyn tells George not to complicate matters unnecessarily and gives him a sweet smile while sipping her champagne.

Here comes trouble!

Friday 06 October

It’s the day of Stefan’s trial as Charmaine prepares herself for her big day in court. Vanessa apologises for not being able to accompany her mother as she cannot bear facing the reporters and their questions.

Neville stops Paula and Mandla from getting into another fight when he gives Mandla a high profile case to work on. Apparently a high flying socialite named Melanie Montague was murdered in her home by professional thieves who were after expensive jewellery pieces.

Beats me why all this detail was given but perhaps we’ll find out later.

George informs Dezi of Robyn waltzing in the previous night to tell him they’re partners. He refuses to accept this deal until he’s seen her offer in writing so that he’s able to better it.

Paula complains to everyone who’s willing to listen about her frustrations regarding the Montague murder and how Nellie refuses to give her the scoop she so rightly deserves. Unknown to her, there’s someone following her around listening in on her conversations. Who could it possibly be?

Stefan is ready for his trial and even more so for his sentencing. Xander tries to be positive but Stefan has already resigned himself to a life in prison.

Paula is quite pleased with the bend-and-stretch photos and Aggie points to a stranger in the background scowling at the camera. Paula leaves and Aggie files the photos.

Mandla tells the Deli staff of the story he’s working on and everyone is shocked at what happened to Melanie Montague. Mandla states it’s the biggest story of his career.

When Charmaine and the others return from Court, Vanessa is eager to know the details. Xander tells her that Stefan got eight years with a special provision to apply for parole after two years. Charmaine excuses herself and Vanessa is worried about her.

Robyn finds George in the Deli and confronts him about going behind her back to enquire about the offer she made. She produces the offer, taunting him and hinting that there’s just no way he’ll be able to match it. He’s shocked when he sees the offer she made for Wilmien’s shares.

Neville and Charmaine are having dinner and all she can speak about is her sympathy for Stefan. Neville tells her that perhaps it will do him good so that he can forgive himself and start afresh with he’s eventually released. Charmaine is very concerned about Vanessa keeping her feelings bottled up and suffering in silence.

George shows Robyn’s offer to Karien and they can’t seem to understand why she has offered so much. George is frustrated and speculates on Robyn knowing something he does’nt. He feels that his world is falling apart and that Robyn will swallow him whole without battling an eyelid.

There’s a burglar at the Hillside Times offices, ransacking the place in his search for ……….the bend-and-stretch photographs???

Why would somebody want to steal those? What are they after and more importantly who are they working for? Tannie Rademan? Naah it’s definitely not her style but who then and why? Could it be linked to the murder of Melanie Montague and who was the stranger in the photo, her husband Clifford Montague?

Tune in to find out why somebody would be after those photographs, how George will handle his new partner and what dirt Nellie will undercover in the Imnyama Bay story.
