Neef Gert tries his best to escape the clutches of the evil Cheryl but her supernatural powers spots him in a remote location. She sets out after her man or is that her mouse and subsequently lures the unsuspecting manmouse into her cage, locking him away forever.

The other folks of 7de Laan who are having a hard time running away from their guilty feelings are Madel and Stefan. Although Madel may not be sitting in jail for Nicholas’ death, she is the one who is ultimately responsible for him being shot to death.

Stefan, on the other hand, may be ready to face whatever punishment the court hands down but his greatest punishment is living with what he did to an innocent baby and how that affected the baby’s mother.

Summary for last week:

Monday 25 September

Jan Hendrik returns from his journey and he and Dezi discuss what Renate did. Jan Hendrik can’t understand what drove a perfectly sane woman who was so looking forward to retiring with her husband to commit such a horrendous act.

Vince, Marko and Mandla are with Tokkie at T&T. He tells them about a piece of land at Imnyama Bay which he wants to buy and this could be the deal of a lifetime once again. The guys are definitely interested, if given the chance to invest. Neville listens to everything from a few feet away and he does not look happy.

Cheryl is highly upset about Hendriena’s ridiculous demands for maintenance as she envisions her expensive lifestyle coming to an abrupt end. She resorts to name calling.

The young folk are discussing Renate in Oppiekoffie and Charmaine quickly nips them in the bud. Inge tells Carlos that Sandra’s lawyer will not be closing the boutique down but will rather be selling it.

Danny and Matrone are positive about Matrone’s presentation and everything seems to be going according to their plans. Matrone tells Danny the other finalists don’t stand a chance against her.

Wilmien’s lawyers are getting impatient with George as they constantly phone for the money. This puts George under a lot of pressure as he sees Carlos as being his only option now.

Vince and Xander come face to face in the Deli, it’s all part of their father’s plan to get the two to reconcile. It doesn’t work though, as we see the two brothers arguing, Xander storming out and Vince shouting that he will be moving out. Neville shakes his head in despair.

Stefan is back in town, ready for the upcoming trial. He goes to greet Charmaine and she’s very supportive and understanding.

Mandla tells Neville about doing an article on Tokkie and his deal in Imnyama Bay but Neville is not convinced he trusts Tokkie and his deals and tells Mandla to do thorough research.

Tannie Rademan and Matrone bump into each other at the Deli and the two are very polite with each other. Tannie Rademan or is that Rossouw shocks Matrone by announcing that she is also a finalist in the DD competition. Oh no, here we go again!

Tokkie tells Inge about the land he’s interested in buying and he’s very excited about it. Inge is preoccupied about the boutique and how it will affect her future and Tokkie sets her mind at ease.

George asks Carlos if he will be investing in KDL and a very uncomfortable Carlos breaks the news to George that he cannot get involved, it’s too soon after Sandra. George is crushed.

Neville and Charmaine discuss their children’s woes and Charmaine fears for Vanessa’s reaction to the upcoming trial.

Madel is cooped up in her room when Jan Hendrik walks in. The two discuss what happened and once again Jan Hendrik questions Renate’s actions. Madel hides the truth from him and tells him to check up on Renate and offer assistance.

Jan Hendrik goes to visit Renate and she’s an extremely proud woman as she declines the assistance offered to her. She accuses Madel of being the one responsible for Nicky’s death and Jan Hendrik is completely blown away by her accusations.

Tuesday 26 September

Jan Hendrik pushes his mother for answers after hearing Renate’s accusations directed at Madel. She’s forced to tell him of her and Nicky’s secret feeling for each other over the years and how it came about that Renate shot her husband.

Madel futher blames herself for Nicky’s death and cries bitter tears over her lost love. Jan Hendrik is shocked at his mother’s display of emotions over this man.

Cheryl is all fired up about the wedding and tells Gert that she’s inviting 250 guests, most of which will be coming from Garies and he needs to organise transport and accommodation for the people. Gert tells her to slow down since he’s not even divorced yet but Cheryl politely tells him she’s already appointed a lawyer to handle his case.

Charmaine has invited Stefan to dinner and asks Vanessa if she will be available but Vanessa is not keen and goes all quiet when Stefan’s name is mentioned.

Tokkie approaches Vince and Marko and tells them that they, together with Mandla, can be part of the deal for the piece of land that he wants to purchase.
They guys show a keen interest.

Nellie comes to tell Jan Hendrik and Dezi that Renate appeared in court and has been fully charged with murder. Her lawyer pleaded insanity and she will be referred to a psychiatrist for observation. Dezi feels sympathy for Renate and Jan Hendrik is all tense and edgy.

Matrone tells Danny about Tannie Rademan being a finalist and they have to get moving on Matrone’s campaign. It’s obvious she feels completely threatened by the older dame who might steal the title from right under her nose.

Mandla is all psyched up about the Presidential Banquet and makes plans on what to wear when Matrone storms into the offices and scolds him for not noticing Tannie Rademan’s name on the list of finalists. His punishment is to snoop out all the dirt on the old lady if he still wants to go the banquet. Poor Mandla does’nt have a choice in the matter.

Dezi and JH discuss Renate’s future which has changed overnight. JH tells Dezi about the true nature of his mother’s relationship with Nicky and questions his parents’ marriage and the reasons for his father’s infidelity.

Vanessa harbours a lot of bitterness and anger towards Stefan and tells Felicity that she cannot have dinner with him knowing that he killed her baby.

Dezi visits Renate and the woman is very bitter and nasty towards Madel. Dezi tries to cover for Madel but Renate is hearing none of it, she tells Dezi the truth about her marriage to Nicky. Dezi tries to make Renate understand things from Madel’s point of view, speaking about her own feelings and although she does’nt mention Theuns’ name, Renate can read between the lines and tells her to end things now before it turns disastrous for Jan Hendrik like it did in her case.

Stefan and Charmaine are having dinner alone and they talk about Vanessa. Stefan is very understanding and respect Vanessa’s feelings for not showing up for dinner. He tells Charmaine that no matter what the verdict may be, it can’t be worse than what he will be suffering for the rest of his life, knowing what he did.

Wednesday 27 September

Hilda tells Maria that she bumped into Dominee Potgieter and he apologised for the mix up with the DD competition. Just then Nellie comes over and also apologises to Hilda, she’s so happy that her name has finally been cleared and thinks of a plan to thank Paula for her hand in clearing up the whole mess.

Oubaas gives Gert and official letter from Garies and he’s shocked to read that Hendriena wants him to have the kids for the whole of December, she’s even included a list of activities for them to do.

Cheryl immediately smells a rat, accusing Hendriena of having a new man in her life and now she wants to shirk her duties as a mother. Neef Gert and Oubaas refuse to believe this of Hendriena but Cheryl warns Gert that she has already made plans for Christmas for the two of them and Gert had better not drop her.

Can you imagine Neef Gert’s kids having her for a stepmother, she’ll be the wicked stepmother from hell.

Matrone walks into Oppiekoffie and sees Mandla with the enemy, Ans Rademan, he quickly makes his escape. Matrone later confronts him and he says that Nellie instructed him to interview all the finalists.

Neef Gert is busy packing food into his bag when Oom Oubaas walks in, he quickly makes as if he’s putting the food into the refridgerator. When Cheryl comes home, Gert surprises her with a booking for a Thai massage. He’s eager to get her out of the flat and when she eventually leaves he goes back to packing his bag. It’s obvious he’s trying to his escape her evil clutches.

Matrone, Mandla and Danny get together for Operation: Eliminate Tannie Rademan. The research that Mandla has done on the old lady is terribly boring and Matrone instructs Mandla to spin a juicy story at the Tannie’s expense.

Oubaas catches Neef Gert red-handed trying to make his get-away and he cries on the old man’s shoulder saying he can’t handle his situation any longer. What’s that saying about “making one’s bed, now you must lie on it”, well it seems Gert has done enough lying down, that’s what caused this mess in the first place, he’s now planning on running as far and as fast as he can.

Gert and Oubaas work out a story to tell Cheryl once she discovers that Gert has gone missing. Gert greets his uncle and takes the high road.

Madel is reading Nicky’s tribute in the newspaper when Dezi walks in. She tells Madel about Nicky’s cremation service, giving her all the details so that she may attend.

Hilda approaches Paula in Oppiekoffie and hands over a gift bag, thanking Paula for clearing her name. Paula is very excited about her gift but is totally flabbergasted when she opens it and discovers a colourful knitted garment meant to be a jersey.

Hilda forces her to try it on and with the others cheering her on, Paula is forced to model and pose whilst Mandla takes pictures for the fashion pages. Honestly, Paula looked like a clown in that garment, she just needed the matching bedsocks.

When Cheryl comes home looking for Gert only to find him not there, she turns to a nervous Oom Oubaas who nearly gives the game away and Cheryl immediately thinks that Gert has planned a surprise for her.

Renate and her cousin are the only people at Nicky’s cremation service. Frankly I’m surprised, where are all those professors from the varsity, the business people that he had dealings with, the 7de laan folk or did Renate request a private service?

Madel puts a cd into the player and “When I fall in love” starts to play. She sways to the music which totally suits the romance she had with Nicky as Nat King Cole sings “love has ended before its begun”.

Just before the cremation service ends, Madel steps into the church and quietly sits at the back. At the end of the service, Renate gets up to leave and she’s shocked when she turns around and sees Madel sitting there, she gives her the evil eye as the two stare at each down.

Cheryl is all dressed up waiting for her “Pokkels” and no matter how many times she tries to contact him, he cannot be reached. She becomes highly upset calling him all the names under the sun and a very nervous Oom Oubaas watches from behind the door. Cheryl cusses and curses like a cow gone mad as she threatens to kill him with her bare hands.

Thursday 28 September

JH is still upset about his mother’s indiscretion and no matter how Dezi tries to cover for her, JH refuses to believe that his parents’ marriage was based on love. He sees his mother in a totally different light and is angry at her for making him believe in a lie.

Cheryl is fast asleep on the sofa and Oubaas tries to quietly steal past her. He whispers to Maria about giving Cheryl some story of Gert’s whereabouts. Just as he’s about to leave, Cheryl jumps up and lays it into him for covering up for Gert. Maria breaks it to her that he has left her and chosen to run away. Cheryl sees red, she’s spitting fire and venom and it’s directed at Gert, threatening to kill him.

George breaks it to his staff that Carlos will not be coming on board and consequently he has to either bring in a new partner or sell the company. Altie is optimistic and encourages George to be positive that he will get a partner very soon.

Cheryl is on the warpath with everybody and the girls in the boutique find out the reason for her foul temper. She blames Hilda and Oubaas for allowing her and Gert to sleep on the sleeper couch thereby killing their passion. She phones Gerrie her buddy in the police, and asks him to trace Gert providing him with the registration number.

Matrone reads out her speech to Danny which was written by Mandla and Danny finds it quite laughable. Tannie Rademan quietly sits behind Matrone listening to every word and when Matrone realises the Tannie has been eavesdropping, the two get into a fight. Matrone demands that Danny get busy writing a new speech for her.

Vince, Marko and Mandla discuss of ways of getting cash to invest in Tokkie’s new deal. The devil himself walks in and tells them they can invest whatever amount suits their pocket but they need to hurry. Nellie is once again watching from afar.

Stefan approaches Xander and tells him that he does not want Charmaine to be called in as his character witness. He refuses to listen to Xander’s advice and says that he does not want to cause further complications for the Beukes family. Felicity listens to every word at the door.

The people in 7de Laan just have a habit of listening in on other people’s conversations, don’t they? I mean we don’t do that in real life, do we?

Cheryl lets everyone know about her problems with Gert and when she gets a call back from Gerrie saying they spotted his car, she immediately makes reservations for a flight to Swaziland.

Madel tells JH that she went to Nicky’s cremation service and he just does not understand the depth of his mother’s feelings for Nicky, questioning again his mother’s love for his father.

Madel explains the situation to JH and tries to make him understand where she was coming from. He asks her if she could choose again and she gives him the perfect answer saying that she would not change her decision because her kids is and always will be the most important thing in her life, they mean more to her than even her greatest love.

Tokkie tells Inge how excited the guys are about the deal. She questions her relationship with him if he succeeds in this deal and he assures her that he will never walk out on her again.

Renate walks casually into Madel’s house as if she owns the place. There’s the question of Madel’s security again. She tells Madel that she’s come to greet her old friend before she goes to the loony bin.

Renate is very sarcastic towards Madel and tells her exactly what happened the day of the shooting when she was listening at the door. She boasts about winning one over Madel and that she and Nicky were together until death parted them. Her final words really cut deep into Madel’s wound when she says that Nicky is better off dead than for Madel to have him.

Friday 29 September

Felicity tells Charmaine what she overheard Stefan telling Xander, that he does not want Charmaine to testify as his character witness. Vanessa overhears and her mother tries to get through to her but Vanessa is not willing to forgive Stefan just yet.

Carlos and Dezi want to help Madel get over her depressed state but JH tells them to let it be. Madel walks into the room and announces that she’ll be going alone to Waenhuiskrans. I wish I had a place to escape to when the problems of the world become too heavy.

Alyce tells Tessa and Marko about Cheryl’s determination to find Gert and drag him down the aisle. They inform Hilda and Oubaas of Cheryl’s intention to go to Swaziland and to bring Gert back. Hilda makes it clear that they won’t be returning to her flat and threatens to divorce Oubaas if they do.

Matrone is upset about Tannie Rademan being on the Times’ front page and lays it into Danny and Mandla. She’s on the warpath as she confronts Paula for writing the article and threatens to expose Paula’s incompetence to Nellie if she does not write a four column article about Matrone and her good deeds.

This Dazzling Dame storyline is really getting so sickening, it’s been going for a good few weeks now and just when we thought it was over, they decided to further torment us by bringing the old rivalry between Tannie Rademan and Matrone back into the picture. Enough is enough, dammit!

Inge is excited about her upcoming plans with Tokkie and tells Karien about their overseas travel plans to Turkey and the Ukraine. She’s hopelessly inlove with Tokkie and plans on settling down with him in Imnyama Bay.

Tokkie shows his plans for development to Vince who seems doubtful that he will pull it off but Tokkie is willing to take risks and is positive about the deal. Nellie is once again watching and listening at the door.

Since when does Tannie Rademan shop at the boutique? When Matrone steps in she insults the Tannie for her lack of style and fashion sense. Inge brings Matrone her outfit for the banquet and while Matrone is fitting it on, Tannie Rademan whispers to the girls that she wants a better outfit than Matrone’s. These old gals are worse than naughty schoolchildren.

JH is still sulking about his mother not sharing her innermost feelings with him and Ryno tries to make him see things from his mother’s side. Ryno is always the voice of reason for everybody in the Laan.

Nellie gives Vince a stern warning about investing in the deal with Tokkie and asks him all sorts of questions which he cannot answer, Vince has blind faith in Tokkie’s abilities to make them rich. Nellie tells him that he cannot invest his shares in the deli as he still needs to pay for the shares.

Carlos tells Marko that he will be going on a course to Cape Town and Marko is pretty psyched up about it, envisioning himself as a manager someday.

Karien goes over to Hilda’s flat to ask her advice about making pancakes. Oubaas speaks fondly of Neef Gert when Maria suddenly rushes in out of breath. Apparently Cherel phoned her and demanded that her washing be sent over to Swaziland. What the hell?

Karien tells Hilda this is good news since it can only mean that they’re not returning to Hillside and Maria confirms it. She says that Cheryl found Neef Gert, the two went gambling and lo and behold they hit the jackpot once again. Gert was so happy, he immediately proposed to Cheryl and the two will be making a life for themselves in Swaziland away from Hendriena and her ridiculous demands. Oubaas feels slightly disappointed that he will not be saying a few winged words at their wedding ceremony. You should count yourself lucky, Oom Oubaas!

Madel tells JH she feels guilty about Nicky and Renate’s marriage not standing a chance because of her but at the same time she blames Renate for keeping quiet for all those years and playing second fiddle in her marriage.

Xander tells Charmaine the importance of Stefan having her as a character witness and this further confuses her. Should she follow her heart and testify on his behalf thereby alienating her daughter or does she turn her back on him and make him suffer more than he already has?

Tune in to find out if Charmaine will testify on Stefan’s behalf, will Matrone or Tannie Rademan win the DD Competition and will George finally get a partner in KDL?

All this and more,
