Season 8

The 2011 Channel O MVAs took place on Friday 11 November 2011 in Johannesburg at the Sandton Convention Centre and were broadcast live on Channel O from 21h00.

They were preceded by a live special at 19h00 called the 2011 Awards Red Carpet, which aired on DStv's Vuzu channel on the show V-Entertainment.

The 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards are in their eighth year this year and recognise videos that have achieved the most popular appeal on the channel over the past year.

Last year's ceremony was held at the Sandton Convention Centre and aired live for the first time. The venue for this year's awards was the same and they once again aired live.

The theme for the night was "The Arena". Last year's theme was aviation - the presenters and the booty who welcomed people etc were dressed in pilot gear and the surrounding sounds and decor had an airport/flight feel.

This year's red carpet was hosted by Big Brother Amplified and Channel O's Weza Solunga. She was on the red interviewing guests when they arrived and was joined by Channel O newcomer Jokate Urban Mwegelo a.k.a J.K. - who covered the pre-drinks area and backstage.

Vuzu's V-Entertainment covered the red carpet arrivals at the 2011 Channel O MVA's - live for the first time. The show's always covered the red carpet but usually in an insert on the show afterwards - this time they broadcast as it happened, starting at 19h00.

Siya Ngwekazi and Lalla Hirayama did the "Who are you wearing?" thang as guests arrived, with inserts in between.

The special featured snippets surrounding the awards including a look back to the first awards in 2003 and a countdown of the Top 5 best winners podium moments over the years.

The main ceremony was hosted by Nigerian R&B artist Banky W and Channel O's Dineo Moeketsi.

Various nominees performed during the show. Those who performed included AKA, L-Tido, Mozambique's Lizha James, Professor, DJ Cleo, Naija's Flavour and Angola's Cabo Snoop.

There was also a rap showdown between Khuli Chana, AKA, Uganda's Keko, rapper Navio, Zambia’s C.R.I.$.I.$ and Najia's Ice Prince.

Actress, dancer and bigtime tweeter Khabonina Qubeka's choreographed the moves for all of the dance sequences.

Naija's D'Banj was honoured with this year's Special Recognition Award.
