Season 9

The 2012 Channel O MVAs took place on Saturday 17 November 2012 at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto and were broadcast live on Channel O from 20h00.

They were preceded by a live special at 18h00 called the 2012 Awards Red Carpet, which will air on DStv's Vuzu channel on the show V-Entertainment.

If you're a fan of all things celebrity and music there was only one place to be - in front of your television screen, in the company of Channel O. The channel pulled out all the stops to bring viewers the 9th Annual Channel O Music Video Awards.

The action started early on Saturday 17 November when V-Entertainment ran the red carpet live from 18h00 on both Vuzu and Channel O. Hosted by Lalla Hirayama and Dineo Moeketsi, V-Entertainment brought all the glitz, glamour and thrills of the build-up to the 9th Annual Channel O Music Video Awards to viewers.

Then it was the moment of truth for the nominees in the 14 categories when the show went live at 20h00. Would Kenya's hip hop group Camp Mulla live up to the expectations created by being a leading nominee? Or would Khuli Chana dominate proceedings in 2012?

With the cream of the crop in the running this year, only one thing was for sure: the best and most original music from across the African continent would be celebrated.

Bonang Matheba and Nigerian star Ice Prince were the hosts when the ceremony got underway at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.

Adding impact to an already star-packed awards event were the live performers – including MA-E of Teargas fame, Botswana rapper Zeus, Nigeria's Ice Prince and Mo Cheddah.

Khuli Chana, Camp Mulla, Nigeria's Davido, Ghana's M.anifest, and South Africans Black Motion, Mi Casa, DJ Zinhle, Bucie, Alaska, Thebe and Dr Malinga and many more.

Making a special appearance was this year's Special Recognition recipient, Oskido as well as the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir.
